Timothy Goodson, 44, of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2001.
Goodson was born September 21, 1957, in White County, to Fred Hillis Goodson and Rose Ellen Caldwell Goodson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Janine Goodson of Sparta; one son, Braxton Hillis Goodson of Sparta; two step daughters, Amber Denton and Shasta Pinegar both of Sparta;
two brothers, Tommy Goodson of Anderson, Ind. and Fred Leon Goodson of Sparta; four sisters, June Howell of Garland, Texas,
Barbara Roberts of Chesterfield, Ind.,

The Candle Barn gets ready for Christmas

The Candle Barn is getting ready for a warm and bright holiday season as chief candle makers and owners, Dot Adcock and Stacey Weaver work daily to fill orders for the many gift baskets and specialty orders they have received from early holiday shoppers.
Weaver and Adcock learned the craft of candle making after Weaver’s mother and an aunt purchased the business, Candles and More, from Debbie Price last September.
“Me and my other aunt, Dot, started helping them,” said Weaver.
“They had a business in Wartburg, which they have since sold, and we did the business down here.

James Ray Rice, 50, of Cookeville, passed away Monday, October 29, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Rice was born October 2, 1951, in White County.
He was the son of Reba Montgomery of Cookeville and the late James Rice.
Rice was a pipeline construction employee.

William H. Henrich, 82, of Sparta, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2001, at White County Community Hospital.
Henrich was born May 4, 1919, in New York, to Louis Henrich and Esther Beck Henrich.
He was a graduate of Harvard and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama in electrical engineering and physics.
Survivors include his special friend, Frances Phifer of Doyle; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Cavanaugh of Auburn, N.H.; one son and daughter-in-law, William Henrich, Jr. and Linda Henrich of Syosset, N.Y.; one sister, Millie Berstein of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Scott Cavanaugh and Jonathan and Michael Henrich.

Andrew Davis (Andy) Howell, 94, of Sparta, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2001, in White County Community Hospital.
Howell was born February 25, 1907, in White County, to Tillman and Laura Frances Tallent Howell.
He had been a restaurant owner.
Services will be held Monday, November 5, 2001, at
2 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Douglas Downs will officiate.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Isaac Elbert Madewell, 83, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2001.
Madewell was born November 12, 1918, in Van Buren County, to James Madewell and Srilda Yates Madewell.
He attended Clark’s Chapel Church of God in Spencer and had been employed at Spencer Shirt Factory for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Madewell of Spencer; one daughter, Maxine Jones of McMinnville; two sons, Ray Madewell and Eugene Madewell both of Spencer; one sister, Mary Katherine Brock of Spencer; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.

Arthur Miller Cummings, 90, McMinnville, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2001.
Cummings was born October 30, 1911, in Warren County, to Homer Cummings and Arrie Mitchell.
He attended Way of the Cross Baptist Church.
Cummings was a retired truck driver with the State Highway Department in Van Buren County.

Matilda Walker Mills

Matilda Walker Mills, 104, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, October 22, 2001.
Walker was the last of 13 children of Charlie and Cynthia Bowman Walker of Overton County.
She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class. Walker was a resident of Chattanooga for 78 years and retired from Miller Bro. company as a fur restylist. She continued her work at home past her 100th birthday.
Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Bertis Leo Mills, Sr. and two sons, Cecil Ray Mills and Charles Douglas Mills.

“I spent thirty years in the grocery business,” said Paul Woodcock of Sparta Wholesale Meat and Produce.
“I took early retirement from the Bi-Lo Corporation, and we opened the Sparta Cafe.
When we had the opportunity to purchase the building in which the cafe was located, we thought it would be a good place for wholesale foods.”
Sparta Wholesale Meat and Produce opened the first week September and, besides the wide selection of meat and produce available at the shop, they also carry beverages, paper products, and canned and dry goods, all at wholesale prices, plus everyday staples such as milk and bread.

Pauline Wallace McBride, 75, of Maryville, passed away Monday, October 29, 2001, at Asbury Acres Health Center in Maryville.
McBride was born March 4, 1926, in Sparta, to George Beecher and Maude Cole Wallace.
She was a homemaker, bookkeeper, banker, fabric artist, and gardener.
McBride was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin McBride and her parents.
Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Jane Tolbert of Murfreesboor, one son, Richard Franklin McBride of Maryville; one sister, Willie Mae Winton of Cookeville; and two grandchildren, Robert and Katherine McBride.
