James L. Cope, 74, of Rutherford County, passed away Feb. 17, 2002.
Cope was born May 12, 1927, in Van Buren County, to Milus Cope and Maggie Hickerson Cope.
He attended the Church of Christ and was retired from DeZurik and Powermatic. Cope was a veteran and a member of VFW Post 5060 and American Legion Post 173.
Cope was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Clandin Burns; and one brother, Donald Cope.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Carmack Cope of Spencer; two sons, Harold Cope and Floyd Cope both of Spencer; one daughter, Kathleen Epperson of Michigan; seven grandchildren, Angel Epperson and Melinda Epperson both … CONTINUED

James Curtis Womack, 67, of Warren County, passed away Feb. 16, 2002, at River Park Hospital.
Womack was born March 19, 1934, in Van Buren County to Clint Womack and Eula Clendenon Womack Hale.
He attended the Church of Christ and was a truck driver.
Womack was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Womack; one sister, Christene Hodges; and two grandchildren, Heath Delong and Doug Bouldin.

Willie Ray Elkins, 54, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 15, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Elkins was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Sparta, to John and Lucille Lawrence Elkins.
He was disabled.
Elkins was preceded in death by his father.

Every generation of parents is concerned about the welfare of their children and what life has in store for them. However, there is a bright spot on the horizon for parents of members of the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
White County High School is fortunate to have three well-qualified agriculture teachers: Bobby Collier, Tim Mackie and Danielle Gernt. These three individuals are dedicated to their profession and the students who depend upon them for guidance.

Questions of unauthorized personnel at E-911 Center sparks controversy

The discussion of enhanced security at the E-911 Communications Center sparked an intense dialogue between E-911 Director Harry Cole and several board members during the bimonthly meeting on Feb. 12 2002.
The debate over the installation of a fence was reopened. During the meeting held in December, board members had discussed putting up a fence that would completely surround the E-911 complex. Mayor Claude Bradley, who is also an E-911 board member, expressed concern over the fencing. “I think you may be putting too much emphasis on the fence,” said Bradley.

Virginia Schmoll, 73, of Indianapolis, Ind., passed away Feb. 12, 2002.
The family has chosen cremation and no services are planned. A memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Eaton and Brenda Petree both of Sparta; two sons, Richard Schmoll and Steven Schmoll both of Indiana; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and three sisters.

Robinson was a member of Spring Street The Baptist Church.

Edath Eugenia (Jean) Savage Lowe, 85, of Quebeck, passed away Feb. 7, 2002, at River Park Hospital in McMinnville.
Lowe was born Jan. 22, 1917, in White County, to Alexander Savage and Effie Raper Savage.
She attended Doyle Nazarene Church.
Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Lowe; her parents; and one infant son, Carl Edwin Lowe.

Thelma Kee Blankenship, 96, of Dyersburg, passed away Feb. 9, 2002.
Blankenship was a retired school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J.C. Blankenship; one son, Joseph Charles Blankenship Jr.; and her parents, Thomas and Hattie Kee.
Survivors include a niece who was her caregiver, Wanda Butler and one sister, Irma Kee Bolding.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 13, 2002, at J. W. Curry and Son Funeral Home in Dyersburg with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Guy Merryman officiated.
J.W. Curry and Son Funeral Home in Dyersburg was in charge of arrangements.


John Thomas Paine

John Thomas Paine, 79, of McMinnville, passed away Feb. 10, 2002, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
Paine was born April 22, 1922, in Warren County, to Herd Paine and Eliza Hale.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Paine was retired from Carrier Corp.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 13, 2002, at the chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery in White County. Alton Marcum and Jimmy Lindsey officiated.
High Funeral Home in McMinnville was in charge of arrangements.
