Women of the area now have another great reason to attend the 2002 Upper Cumberland Showcase for Women.
In addition to the $3,000 shopping spree offered at the show by Morgan Furniture Center, Jennifer Dodson of Styled and Polished salon is holding a drawing in which four women will win women’s show make overs.
Dodson wants to show women just how wonderful it feels to be pampered.

Politics and pride at Dessert and Debate

Expositor Report
Staying involved in the political pulse of the community and participating in activities that will benefit the youth of White County will be the focus of the Dessert and Debate event at 6:30 p.m., April 5, 2002, at White County Middle School.
The Expositor and Project Graduation are hosting a forum that will provide White County citizens with an opportunity to meet and hear the views of all candidates who are seeking public office during the May 7th primary and August 1st general election.

Dova Clata Passons Wallace, 97, of Sparta, passed way March 27, 2002, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Wallace was born Sept. 25, 1904, in White County, to James Monroe Passons Sr. and Ida Ora Haston Passons.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church as well as Sparta Woman’s Club and Garden Club. Wallace was a homemaker.
Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Wallace Sr. and one son, James Gordon Wallace Jr.
Survivors include one son, Keith Monroe Wallace Sr. of Sparta; one daughter, Jane Rachel Robinson of Johnson City; one brother, Monroe Passons of Sparta; seven grandchildren, James Gordon Wallace III, … Read More

Reece Carson Young, 76, of Smithville, passed away March 25, 2002, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Young attended a Baptist church and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zollie and Rebbie Luna Young; one sister, Ruth Billings; and one brother, Thurman Young.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie Fuson Young of Smithville; one brother, Virtresse Young of Memphis; four sisters, Julia Robinson of Smithville, Arlene Rickmand of Smyrna and Hilda Billings and Helen Judkins both of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty J. Butcher Burns, 69, passed away March 23, 2002, at Middle Tenn. Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
Burns was born July 7, 1932, in Warren County, to Walter Butcher and Elsie Lawson Butcher.
She was of the Protestant faith and a retired factory worker.
Burns was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Butcher.

Gilbert was the daughter of Jimmy Dial and Roxie Smith Dial.

Many women’s clinics are slated to be offered at the second annual Upper Cumberland Showcase for Women to keep attendees busy throughout the day.
The women’s show, scheduled for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on April 13, will have many merchants offering learning clinics for attendees.

Sparta Drive-In to reopen this summer

Drag out the poodle skirts, cashmere sweaters and saddle oxfords and saddle soap those leather jackets because the infamous Sparta Drive-In is making a come-back this summer.
According to Brenda Cardwell, the former high-spot of entertainment in Sparta has been leased by a Spring City couple who will reopen the cinema attraction to provide White Countians with the only drive-in theater in the area. “I believe Dunlap is the closest drive-in to Sparta,” said Cardwell.
