Thelma Jean Smith, 61, of Cookeville, passed away Oct. 25, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Smith was born Aug. 29, 1941, in White County, to Verble Sherrell and Blanche Elizabeth Cason
Sherrell of Algood.
She was a member of Scott Avenue Baptist Church and had been a machinist at Flowserve.
Survivors include her mother, Blanche Sherrell of Algood; husband, Ernest Smith of Cookeville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Melody Smith of Cookeville and Jeff and Amy

Edgar Grant “Red” Pistole, 67, of Winchester, passed away Oct. 24, 2002, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Pistole was born in White County.
He had been a minister with the Church of Christ denomination.
Pistole was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Faye Pistole and two brothers, Edward Pistole and Abie Pistole.

Stolen vehicle found burned

Local authorities recovered a stolen vehicle from a field on Cove Road on Oct. 17, 2002. The vehicle belonged to Wanda and Rodney Isom, of Sparta.
Authorities said someone reported finding a burnt truck in their field. Deputy Jody O ’Dell of the White County Sheriff ’s Department responded and discovered the tires and doors were removed and the tag to the vehicle was on the ground behind it.

Richard Molnar, 69, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 23, 2002.
Molnar served in the Korean Conflict and had been an electrical contractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Molnar and Anna Mae Biszaha Molnar.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Molnar of Sparta; five children, Faith Molnar, Richard A. Molnar, Dawn Robinson and Leah Koch all of New Jersey and Gail Swift of Ohio; one sister, Lorraine Lloyd of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Oct. 25, 2002, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Crossville. Veral VanWinkle will be the presiding overseer.

Joyce Cumming entered into eternal life on Oct. 21, 2002.
Cumming was born Sept. 14, 1940, to Rachel and Verlie Oliver.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all those she knew. Although she may be gone from this earth forever, her smile and love will shine down on us forever.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Cumming; husband, John D. Cumming III; and father, Verlie Oliver.

Jentlelee Mosley White, 80, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 23, 2002, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
White was born Feb. 26, 1922, in
White County, to Joe and Sophia Grissom Mosley.
She was retired from Ben Lomand Cooperative.
White was preceded in death by James Floyd White.
Survivors include two cousins, Belle Sims and Sherree Shaw both of Knoxville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, W.D. and Ruth White of Walling; one sister-in-law, Frances Day of Walling; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 26, 2002, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. Charlie Myers and Chad Ramsey will officiate.

Verdie Copeland, 94, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 22, 2002, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Copeland was born Jan. 17, 1904, in White County, to James Allen Eller and Sarah Jane Eller.
She had been a homemaker.
Copeland was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alex Copeland and her parents.
Survivors include one son, James Copeland of Sparta; one daughter, Frances Whitaker of Sparta; six grandchildren, Barry Whiteaker, Jimmy Whiteaker, Joe Whiteaker, Mike Whiteaker, Debbie Baker and Janice Hale; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Lillie Mae Gist, 69, of Rockford, Ill., passed away Oct. 14, 2002, in Maywood, Ill.
Gist was born Jan. 5, 1933 to Essie and Flossie Gist.
She had been a registered nurse.
Gist was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, James Thomas Gist; three daughters, Debbie Surease Gist, Donna Lee Gist and Shirley Williamson; one son, Earl Gist; mother, Flossie Fuller; one sister, Ella Mae Hopgood, four brothers, Troy Fuller, Leon Fuller, Lloyd Fuller and James Fuller; and one grandson, Christian Lord James Mitchell.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 19, 2002, at Davis Cemetery.
