Arnie Mae Phillip McGuire, 92, of Spencer, passed away Aug. 26, 2004.
McGuire was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Van Buren County, to Ames Zip Phillip and Dolly Mae Brymer Phillip.
She had been a waitress and cook.
McGuire was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three nieces, Louise Kitchen, of Spencer, Willine Potter, Geneva Phillip, both of McMinnville; four nephews, Frank Phillip, Samie Phillip, Eugene Phillip, Amos Phillip, all of McMinnville; several cousins and friends.
Services were at 2 p.m., Aug. 29, 2004, at Love-Cantrell Cope Funeral Home Spencer Chapel with burial in Cummingsville Cemetery. Jason Graham officiated.

Warren Crowder Betterton, 83, of Walling, passed away Aug. 24, 2004.
Betterton was born Aug. 9, 1921, in White County, to Joseph Betterton and Hattie Quillen Betterton.
He was a retired telephone installer with Ben Lomand Company.
Betterton was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jerry Warren Betterton.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Evelyn Betterton; one daughter, Doris Jean Simmons and husband John; two grandaughters, Jackie Howard, Jeanna Wood; four great grandchildren, Kristen Howard, Kade Howard, Kolter Howard, Madelyn Wood, all of Walling; and one daughter-in-law, Earlene Kitchens Betterton, of Sparta.

Ina Edna Bussell Saylors, 91, of Cookeville, passed away Aug. 18, 2004.
Saylors was born Jan. 4, 1913, in White County, to Dibrell Bussell and Siller Howell Bussell.
She had been a homemaker and had competed in the Senior Olympics.
Saylors was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Wayne Saylors; one sister, Katie Bussell Leftwich; and one brother, Gene Bussell.

Mary Kate Stoglin, 83, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 17, 2004.
Stoglin was born Nov. 19, 1920, to Gather Howell and Lou Carter Howell.
She had been a presser at a shirt factory.
Stoglin was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Stoglin; three sons, Donald Stoglin, Charles Harold Stoglin, Freddie Ross Stoglin; five sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Nash, two sons, Teddy Lynn Stoglin and Terry Lynn Stoglin, of Sparta; three sisters, Minnie Bell Howell, of Ohio, Sue Howell, of Florida, Lillie Bee Bullock, of Cookeville; one brother, Buddy Howell, of Loudon; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Mable Imogene Dodson Davis, 78, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 13, 2004.
Davis was born July 26, 1926, in Cumberland County, to Freddie Monroe Dodson and Verdie Hutcheson Dodson.
She had been a homemaker.
Davis was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert Ray Davis.
Survivors include one son, Robert E. Davis, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Janevia Dodson, of Sparta; one brother, Everette Dodson and wife Betty, of Bon Aqua; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Aug. 17, 2004, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Larry Acuff, Jerry Pullum and Fate Wilson will officiate.

Enoch Neal Wilhite, 81, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 9, 2004.
Wilhite was born Feb. 26, 1923, in White County, to Sim Wilhite and Lela Griffin Wilhite.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Wilhite was retired from TRW and had played on the 1942 WCHS basketball team.
Wilhite was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rubye Graham Wilhite; one son, Kenneth Neal Wilhite; one sister, Remona Gilliam; and three brothers, J.D. Wilhite, Porter Wilhite and Oscar H. Wilhite.

The Doyle Café, now the All American Doyle Café, is open for business once again.
Located at 5339 McMinnville Hwy in Doyle, the new owner, Deb Short, is happy to have her family’s help in this new venture.
Originally from Arizona, her family has been in the restaurant business for many years. Her parents, Tom and Rebecca Short, owned and managed restaurants in Phoenix and had retired to the White County area. But now that their daughter has opened the café, they are “back in business.”

At approximately 6 p.m., July 27, 2004, Sgt. Travis Barker responded to a call about someone wielding a knife at North Camp Heights and South Young Street.
Barker came into contact with the victim, Bridgett Caldwell, 28, of Sparta at the Mapco station on Bockman Way. According to the report, Caldwell was traveling around Camp Heights showing her car to a friend when they met Timothy Dilldine driving in the opposite direction.

Morgan Smith “Buster” Horton, 87, formerly of Sparta, passed away July 30, 2004.
Horton was born Jan 28, 1917, in White County to Ray Horton and Stella Horton.
He was a retired engineer with L and N Railroad.
Horton served the U.S. during World War II.
