Martha Inez Mitchell Williams, 83, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 13, 2005.
She was born Nov. 20, 1921, in White County, to Hertial and Mattie England Mitchell.
Williams was retired from UCHRA Agency.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Clarence R. Williams.
Survivors include one son, Brian Williams and wife Cindy, of Sparta; one brother, Eugene Mitchell and wife Olene, of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Richard E. Williams, Jason R. Williams and wife Ashley, Ryan C. Williams, all of Cookeville, Amy Inez Williams, of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.

Ada Mae Sparks Cole, 87, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 12, 2005.
She was born May 26, 2005, in Putnam County, to James Thomas Sparks and Frances Katherine Brewington Sparks.
Cole had worked at a shirt factory.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Marion Cole.

Lt. Col. William E. Brown

Lt. Col. William Ernie Brown, 86, of Knoxville, passed away Sept. 16, 2005.
Brown was born March 2, 1919, in White County, to Ernest L. Brown and Cora Stewart Brown.
Brown retired as Lt. Col. from the U.S. Army in 1972, after 30 years service.
He was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church, a charter member, past president and director of West Knoxville Rotary Club, and was a named Paul Harris Fellow.
Brown was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Edwinna Brown.

E-911 board divided about new director

E-911 Director Lee Swindell has been on the job less than four months, and board members are split in their opinions about how the communications center is running.
Tuesday night’s meeting of E-911 board of directors became the scene of disagreement between several board members about how Swindell was handling various managerial decisions at the center. At one point, a calm Jerry Cole Sr. told other board members they needed to “back off” and allow Swindell to do his job.
“One board member does not have authority by himself,” said Cole.

A Sparta man was injured when he allegedly entered a home where a shotgun had been rigged to fire if the door was opened.
At approximately 4:37 p.m., Sept. 12, 2005, Deputy Darrin Gongaware was dispatched to Cummings Chapel Road where he encountered Greg Hutchings, 35, of Sparta.
Hutchings was lying in the front yard with ‘most of
his left forearm missing,’ according to the report.
The officer proceeded to give first aid to Hutchings and asked him what had happened.

She was born June 14, 1937, in DeKalb County, to William Savage and Vera Mae Luna Robinson.
