Mary Elizabeth Scott, 87, of White County, passed away Oct. 20, 2005.
Scott was born March 12, 1918, in Wilson County, to George Darden York and Ollie Belle Maddux York.
She was a member of the Baptist church and a homemaker.
Scott was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Roy Scott.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Lee Scott, of Reston, Va.,
Patricia Ann Kordela, of Owingsmill, Md.; five grandchildren, Joshua Kordela, Nathan Kordela, Denise Kordela, Rachel Elizabeth Kordela, Mark Andrew Kordela; and two great-grandchildren, Nicklaus Scott Kordela and Jax Grayson Kordela.

Nicole Jeanne Griffin, 19, of Livingston, passed away Oct. 20, 2005, at her home after a three-year battle with cancer.
Griffin was born June 10, 1986, in Amsterdam, N.Y., to Cindy Hamilton Terry.
She was a senior at Livingston Academy, where she received an honorary diploma during the homecoming celebration on Sept. 30, 2005.
She was a member of the Livingston congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. Nikie was well known and loved by the community, friends and family. She had a warm, bubbly heart and a contagious smile. She taught people how to love, live and laugh.

Pulmonary specialist makes Sparta home

From Pakistan to the states and finally, home in Sparta, pulmonary specialist Ahmad Rashid, M.D., is happy to be able to plant roots near other family.
Rashid did his internal medicine residency in St. Louis and Washington University. He then did critical care training at the University of Pittsburgh and Pulmonology training at Chicago Medical School.
“I heard about Sparta, met the people, saw the hospital and came for an interview,” said Rashid.
Rashid said his sister, Dr. Saima Rashid, who also specializes in internal medicine with a focus on rheumatology, opened her practice here in White County just last year.

Lona Trobaugh, 89, of Lenoir City, formerly of White County, passed away Oct. 21, 2005.
Trobaugh was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Putnam County, to Bedford Chaffin and Annie Davidson Chaffin.
She was a member of Findlay Church of Christ and a restaurant owner.
Trobaugh was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward Pruitte Trobaugh; one sister, Thelma Pharris; and two brothers, Bedford M. Chaffin II and Willie Mac Chaffin.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Oct. 18, 2005, White County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to a call on Claude Loftis Road about a stolen truck.
Law enforcement officers were advised to proceed with caution because the suspect had possession of a weapon.
While en route to the location, White County deputies Craig Wilson and Lanny Wheeler met the vehicle on Heady Road, turned around and attempted to make a traffic stop on the 1990 red GM pickup truck.

Commission re-elects Austin as chairman

After the September meeting of White County Board of Commissioners left the members in a tie vote about who would serve as chairman for the upcoming year, Wallace Austin was re-elected Monday night to serve in the leadership position.
Commissioners deadlocked in a 7-7 vote last month between Austin and Patrick Haller. When a second vote still remained tied, the matter was tabled until the October meeting.

Swindler was born in Sparta to Roy Swindler and Maggie Woodley Swindler.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy.
He retired as a chiropractor.
Dobbs was preceded in death by his wife Guyline Woodley Swindler.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jim Goff of Winston Salem, N.C.; sister, Bonnie Clark of Sparta; grandchildren, Stephanie Bankston and Jennifer Payne.
Services will be 11 a.m., Oct. 21, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Cemetery.
Rev. Tom Rutan will officiate.

Dobbs was born, Nov. 30, 1951, in White County, to Raymond A. Dobbs and Reba Anderson Dobbs.

Florine Grace Hudson Clark, 94, passed away Oct. 17, 2005, at McKendree Village.
Clark was born Nov. 2, 1910, in White County, in the community of Old Zion, to Malcolm Kelton Hudson and Mollie Leon Broyles.
She left her widowed mother’s home at 16 years old and traveled to Nashville where she enrolled, and later graduated from, the Protestant School Of Nursing. She married Robert William Clark Jr. in 1932 and elected to spend her younger adult years in dedicated service to her four children.
