Leonard W. Davis, 86, of Cookeville, passed away March 4, 2006.
Davis was born June 4, 1919, in Van Buren County, to William E. and Mary Attie Anderson Davis.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II as a staff sergeant and was retired from USDA Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of Christ Community Church.
Davis was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James H., Herbert Franklin, and William Edward Davis; and two sisters, Mary Louise “Mammie” Davis and Alice Florene Davis Roberts.

Century 21’s Chasity Womack is donating a portion of her closing fees to support education in White County.
Womack has only been a realtor for a few weeks, but already she is trying to step out and make a difference in White County.
She created a program she calls “Closing the Gap”. Anytime she closes on a home or a piece of land, she donates money back to the public schools in White County.
In 2006, she will donate $50 to the school system of every $50,000 that she closes on. The money will be donated to the school of the buyer’s choosing, as long as … CONTINUED

Marian L. Holloway, 87, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 1, 2006, at Wharton Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Holloway, of Pleasant Hill; one daughter, Gail Takes, of Sparta; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were 1 p.m., March 3, 2006, at DeRossett Church of Christ with burial in Stringtown Cemetery.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Up, in and on to the semifinals. Warriorette senior point guard, Brooke Yates, takes the ball to the basket for two of her 11 points in the upset of Columbia Monday night in the first round of the Region 4AAA tournament.
The win moved the Warriorettes into the semifinals on Wednesday against Riverdale.
That game had not tipped off as of press time.

William Haskell Mitchell, 84, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 26, 2006.
Mitchell was born Jan. 29, 1922, in White County, to William Francis Mitchell and Bessie Sims Mitchell.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an attorney.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louvenia Mitchell Hill and Francis Mitchell Horn.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Denton Mitchell, of Sparta; one son, William D. ‘Denny’ Mitchell, of Sparta; one daughter, Vicki Mitchell Balcom, of Harriman; four grandchildren, William D.
