Robert Dalton Charles Forth II, 47, of McMinnville, passed away March 12, 2006.
Forth was born June 10, 1958, to Robert D. Forth and Nellie B. Baker Forth.
He served in the U. S. Navy and had been a laborer.
Forth was preceded in death by his parents.

As one of the focal points of activity in White County, the YMCA offers members and guests an opportunity to get healthy or stay healthy with a variety of activities and facilities.
An employee since 1997, Larry Littrell has worn many hats in his journey to being named the new executive director.
As a White County native, Littrell graduated from White County High School and will receive his degree from TTU this summer.
“I started out teaching swimming lessons,” said Littrell, “then I was a lifeguard, worked in childcare, served as childcare director, then program director and now executive director.”

Making the community aware of underage drinking dangers

The White County Anti-Drug Coalition held a community meeting at the White County Middle School Tuesday night to bring awareness of the problem of underage drinking,
and to offer some suggestions of how the community can help the young people overcome this epidemic that is rapidly growing throughout America and in White County.
Karen Seals works for the Department of Human Services, but is also a concerned parent in White County who is striving to inform parents and the community about the dangers and negative effects of underage

Tragedy marred a beautiful spring day when a crash claimed the life of a White County woman and sent four to the hospital.
According to Crossville Trooper Bobby Barker, Sandra Hutchings Maynard, 53, of Sparta, was traveling eastbound on Highway 70 west, at approximately 7:55 p.m., March 30, 2006, on a 2004 Harley Davidson, about four miles west of Sparta.
Traveling westbound on the highway was a 2004 Dodge Caravan, driven by Shirley Jean Wilson, 35, of Sparta.
For reasons unknown, Barker said Wilson traveled off the roadway on the right shoulder, overcorrected her vehicle, lost control, and came over into the eastbound lane of traffic, … Read More


Uninsured Tennesseans will now have an affordable option

Working Tennesseans who have struggled to pay for health insurance will soon be offered a plan that is not only affordable, but can also remain intact even if the insured changes jobs.
Gov. Phil Bredesen outlined his ‘Cover Tennessee initiative during his recent address to legislators. Bredesen described the program as a “modern, fiscally cautious, down-to earth approach.” He said the core principles are affordability and portability.
“We put a priority on Tennesseans who work for modest wager, for small business, for themselves,” he said.
Bredesen’s strategical plan is expected to provide health insurance to more than 600,000 uninsured Tennesseans.

Woodrow Otis Doney, 71, of Doyle, passed away March 29, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Doney was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Nashville to the Woodrow William Doney and Hazel Doney.
He was the stepson of Gracie Polste Doney.
Doney had been a lumberman.

Arvil Edgar Baker, 95, of Sparta, passed away March 30, 2006, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Baker was born May 18, 1910, in Putnam County, to Mansfield Baker and Betty Mitchell Baker.
He had been a farmer.
Baker was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Allis Marie Robinson Baker; three sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include his son, Arles Ralph Baker, of Crossville; daughter, Eugenia Elsie Howard, of Sparta; step-son, Tommy Baker, of Sparta; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m., April 2, 2006, at Thurman Funeral Home with burial at Upper Board Valley Cemetery. Bro. Cleve Hitchcock officiated.

Richard “Rick” Keith Young, 46, of Bloomfield, Mich., passed away March 23, 2006, at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
Young was born June 11, 1959, in Highland Park, Mich., to Bobby Young and Lois Virginia Good Young.
He had been an auto painter.
Young was preceded in death by his mother.

Bonnie Vernon Dycus, 94, of Sparta, passed away March 29, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Dycus was born Sept. 23, 1911, in White County, to Isac Dycus and Flora Evelyn Anderson Dycus.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been a farmer.
Dycus was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Simmons Dycus, of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews.
