Walter Andrew Sparkman

Walter Andrew Sparkman, 76, of Cumberland County, passed away Nov. 26, 2006, at Country Place Health Care Center in Crossville.
Sparkman was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Warren County, to James Walter Sparkman and Angeline Mayfield.
He had attended the Church of God.
Survivors include two brothers, Mark Sparkman, of McMinnville and Lonnie Sparkman, of Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Nov. 30, 2006, at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County.
J. Stanley Sparkman and T.K. Sparkman will officiate.
High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Robert Lee Shubert

Robert Lee Shubert, 89, of Cookeville, passed away Nov. 26, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Shubert was born April 11, 1917, in White County, to Thomas Mitchell and Winnie Caroline Demps Shubert.
He had worked in the saw mill industry and was a farmer.
He was a member and elder of Mt. Herman Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Shubert was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Herbert, Frank, Clint and Cecil Shubert; two sisters, Nanie Pearl Johnson and Lou Ann Cloyd; and one granddaughter, Katherine Lauren Shubert.

Regina K. Creger Utsman Warner, 59, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 24, 2006, while visiting relatives in Michigan.
She was born to James and Katherine Helton Cregor and was a native of Bristol.
She was a loving wife, mother and friend to anyone who entered her life. She was loved by many for her fun-loving personality and her desire to help others.
She was a 1965 graduate of Tennessee High School and a member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church.
She was a longtime employee of Sperry/Unisys and Electrolux/Aerus.

Conley was born June 5, 1958, in White County, to Elmer Young and Juanita Stewart Young Howard.
She had been disabled.

Jeanette Lee Bowman Kalisz, 76, of Walling, passed away Nov. 25, 2006, at the residence of her daughter.
Kalisz was born Aug. 25, 1930, in New Milford, Pa., to Henry Bowman and Ester Bennette Bowman.
She had been a housewife.
Kalisz was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Kalisz, of Walling; one daughter, Donna Bockhahn and husband Al, of Walling; one sister, Rita Slocum, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were 1 p.m., Nov. 27, 2006, at Highland Cemetery.
Dennis Daniel officiated.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


John Orr

John Orr, 88, passed away Nov. 24, 2006.
He was the son of Phoebe and John Orr.
Orr had been a member of Hermitage Church of Christ for 17 years and served in the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II.
Orr was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Thomas Orr.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Rollins Orr, and two sons, Thomas Orr and Mark Orr and wife Jan.
Graveside services were 2 p.m., Nov. 27, 2006, at Doyle Cemetery.
Bro. Bobby Wilhite officiated.
Hermitage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sherman was born Nov. 21, 1989, in Sparta, to David Sherman and Stephanie Poston Sherman.
He had been a student at White County High School.

Forgery charges lodged against Antioch couple

An Antioch husband and wife are facing several charges of forgery after they were arrested by a City of Sparta investigator for passing fraudulent payroll checks.
James Christopher McWorter, 27, and Beatrice Lyn McWorter, 25, appeared in White County General Sessions Court on Nov. 17, 2006. James is charged with 24 counts of passing a forged instrument and 20 counts conspiracy. Beatrice is charged with criminal impersonation, forgery and criminal conspiracy. Both their cases were continued until Dec. 1, 2006.

Commission fails to elect chairman, again

A second attempt at electing a chairman for White County Board of Commissioners still failed even with two more nominees placed into the competition.
When the Nov. 20, 2006, meeting adjourned, Wallace Austin remained county commission chairman, at least temporarily, until a majority vote can be obtained for the candidates nominated for the position.
During the September 2006 meeting of the commission, two candidates for chairman split the vote of the 14-member legislative body.
