Warriors drop two more games in tourney

Warriorettes bounce back from first loss

On fire. Keshia Daniels was on fire outside the arc in the 80-48 win over Pearl River on Saturday. Daniels was six of 10 on three point attempts finishing with 18 points.

    The Warriorettes found themselves in a situation they hadn’t been in during the first month of the 2008-09 season – trying to bounce back from a loss.
    The WCHS girls had won their first nine consecutive games to start the season before dropping the opening game of the tournament in Fort Payne, Alabama.  They bounced back in … CONTINUED

Michael Dean Frazier

Michael Dean Frazier, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 21, 2008, at the Cancer Center of American, in Tulsa, Okla.
Frazier was born Dec. 26, 1963, in Sparta, to Harold and Wanda Frazier.
Survivors include his wife, Betty G. Frazier, of Sparta; son, T.K. Frazier, of Sparta; three daughters, Brittney Frazier, Ashlee Frazier, Tabitha Gilreath, all of Sparta; parents, Harold and Wanda Frazier, of Sparta; two sisters, Annette Austin and husband Jimmy, of Sparta, Sheila Eller and husband Mark Evan, of Sparta; three nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Dec. 27,2007, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Howell Cemetery. The family will receive friends … CONTINUED

Tennessee teachers’ salaries rank 32nd

Teachers’ salaries are determined by the degree of education obtained and the number of years the individual has spent in that particular career.
Tennessee ranks 32nd out of the 50 states for the average for teachers, at $42,537. The highest average salary is California, at $59,825, and the lowest is South Dakota, at $34,709.
According White County Director of Schools Donny Haley, the entry level pay for teachers is as follows:
•Bachelor’s degree: $31,715
•Master’s degree: $33,990
•Master’s + 30/45: $36,115
•Education specialist: $37,535
•Doctorate: $40,665

Two juveniles facing charges after chase

Two juveniles were taken into custody on Dec. 16, after they led deputies on a short, high-speed chase in Doyle.
According to a report by Deputy Lanny Wheeler, at approximately 1:13 a.m., he responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Wallace Street, in Doyle. He reportedly came in contact with a maroon Volvo, which matched the description of the suspected vehicle in the break-in.
Wheeler stated as he was turning around to intercept the vehicle, the suspected vehicle reportedly almost hit the patrol car as it went past at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was immediately initiated, but the suspects fled.

Dairl McCormick

Dairl McCormick, 61, of Rock Island, passed away Dec. 21, 2008, at Livingston Regional Hospital, in Overton County.
McCormick was born Sept. 20, 1947, in Van Buren County, to George McCormick and Daisy Yates McCormick.
He had worked at Powermatic 37 years and the last seven years at TLT, in Sparta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice McCormick; parents; and sisters, Carolyn Young and Judy McCormick.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., Dec. 23, 2008, at High Funeral Home, in McMinnville, with burial in Crain Hill Cemetery, in Van Buren County. Michael and Phillip Buck will officiate.

Fun times

    Well, we’re all just back from another basketball Christmas road trip. 
    The only difference this year was the trip took place before Christmas instead of after.  This is really the first time I went away for a trip right before the holiday instead of after.  I’m not sure how this is going to work out as far as getting all my shopping done, but I guess I’ll figure it out.  Anyway, it was another fun trip for me as far as hanging out with people.  I wish both teams could have won the tournament and I don’t think Coach Mitchell would agree with me about all the fun.  … CONTINUED

Josephine “Terry” Sims

Josephine “Terry” Sims, 68, formerly of Sparta, passed away Dec. 19, 2008, at her residence in Cookeville.
Sims and her husband helped bring the Young Life Club to the Upper Cumberland. She was a member of Christ’s Community Church, Monday Bridge Club, Tuesday Bible Study Group, and CBS. She had youth groups and Bible studies throughout her life as opening the word of God to people was her passion.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, John Moody Sims, of Cookeville; daughter, Eleanor York and husband David, of Livingston; two sons, John Taylor { Jack } Sims and wife Lynlee, of Loudon, William Scott Sims, of Nashville; eight
