Kenneth Bartlett Milligan, 76, of Grandview Drive in Sparta, passed away March 29, 2009.
Milligan was born in White County on July 20, 1932, the son of the late Lee B. and Josephine Floyd Milligan.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War and worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service. Kenneth was a member of the Cumberland Heights Church of Christ, a Mason and a Shriner. Milligan was a true public servant, serving as Mayor of Sparta, an Alderman, a County Commissioner, and a member of the White County Planning Commission.

Myrtle Lorene Kirby, 77, of Sparta, passed away March 30, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Kirby was born May 5, 1931, in White County, to Harm Martin and Nannie Mae Stacy Rich.
She had been a homemaker.
Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Gary Kirby.

Mace was born March 4, 1950, in White County, to Mark and Mollie Beatrice Turner Mace.

WCHS soccer notches another win

Full contact. Soccer is without a doubt a contact sport as is evidenced by the battle between Cameron Young and a St. Andrews player.

That’s using his head. Warrior soccer player, Brandon Loughman, uses his head to pass the ball during the 3-1 win over St. Andrews- Sewanee on Thursday. The Warriors host Cookeville Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Two on one. Despite the two on one mismatch, Wesley Wagner controls the soccer ball for the Warriors.

The White County High School Warrior soccer team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 3-1 victory over visiting St. Andrews-Sewanee Thursday.

Charges made in Airport Marathon break-in

William Carlton Barlow, 23, of Sparta

One man has been charged by White County Sheriff Department, another has a warrant waiting for him after his release from Putnam County Jail, and one man is still being sought for the Mar. 4 break-in of Airport Marathon.
According to Detective Ruben Hormilla with WCSD, William Carlton Barlow, 23, of Sparta, was served a warrant for his arrest, on Mar. 13, after an investigation led officers to him and two other individuals.

  As this weekend comes to an end, it’s down to four in the NCAA tournament.
Actually while I am writing this, the final two spots in the men’s tournament are still undecided and the women are still working their way to the Elite Eight.
As far as the men’s tournament goes, the Villanova/Pitt game will go down as one of the classic endings in tournament lore. It looked a lot like the end to the UCLA game several years ago when Tyus Edney took the ball the length of the floor to keep the Bruins alive.

Today I have said goodbye to another wonderful part of my life. The father of my best friend in high school has passed away.
When I found the obituary of Lt. Col. Elbert Hill Eller, I felt a tug at my heart as I recalled all the wonderful times I spent at his home. He was the epitome of a true military man who had carried many of his mannerisms and habits over into civilian life. Tennis teams split with Warren County

The White County High School tennis team maneuvered around Mother Nature and was able to get in a match on Thursday at Warren County.
The Warriors and Warriorettes split their matches with the squad from McMinnville. The Warriorettes captured a 6-2 win over the Lady Pioneers, but the Warriors were swept 8-0 by the Pioneers.
The WCHS girls won both their singles matches. The tandem of Star Simpson and Chelsea Sims captured the 8-3 win, which was the identical score by which the team of Megan James and Jessica Jones were victorious in their match.
