Isaac Herbert Bohannon

Funeral services for Isaac Herbert Bohanon, 94, of Algood will be 1 p.m., Aug. 1, 2009, at the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, in Algood, with Rev. Robert Utley officiating.  Interment, with military honors, will follow in Algood Heritage Cemetery.
Mr. Bohanon departed this life July 28, 2009, Life Care Center of Sparta.
He was born October 22, 1914 in Putnam County, TN to the late Isaac Taylor and Elizabeth Marchbanks Bohanon.
Mr. Bohanon was a life-long Methodist and a faithful member of Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church more than 60 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Horace Nixon Rowland

Horace Nixon Rowland, 86, of Walling, passed away July 31, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Rowland was born June 21, 1923, in White County, to George Roger and Ethel Broyles Rowland.
He was preceded in death by a son, Nixon Rowland; brother, Jerald Rowland; and sister, Evelyn Joyner Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Pirtle Rowland, of Walling; son, Darryl Rowland and wife Martha, of Smithville; daughter, Serita Smith and husband Ken, of Walling; grandchildren, Sonya Dzyban, of Nashville, Tonya Stewart, of Nashville, Chad Rowland and wife Jennifer, of Castalian Springs, Christie Carter and husband Brain, of Cookeville, Amy Leonard, of Nashville, Sara Leonard, of Cookeville, … CONTINUED


Betty Jo Cannon Parkey

Betty Jo Cannon Parkey, 75, of Sparta, passed away July 30, 2009, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mrs. Parkey was born Oct. 6, 1933, in White County, to Grover C. Cannon and Arrie Jordan Cannon.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Lynn Tollison; grandson, J.D. Hyatt; brothers, William Cannon, Ed Cannon, Carl Cannon, Clifford Cannon; and sister, Hazel Hall.
Survivors include her son, Don Hyatt and wife Sheila, of Sparta; grandchildren, Leslie Mahan and husband Mike, Jeremy Whitson and wife Kim, Danny Whitson and wife Kacey; great-grandchildren, Madison Mahan, Andre Hyatt, Daniel Whitson, Dakota Whitson, Maliree Whitson; and several nieces and nephews.

TN ranks 46th in survey

A program that was instituted 20 years ago and keeps count of the well-being of America’s children has just released its most recent book that gives detailed state-by-state accounts of the criteria that directly affects the nation’s households.
Kids Count 2009, which is published by the Annie E. Casey Foundations, was officially released Wednesday and provides an in depth look at the youth of this country and how they are faring in various aspects of their lives.
Specific county-by-county information was not available, but Tennessee’s ranking in the 10 “indicators” shows the Volunteer State still lacking in four categories during the time period of 2000-2006.

Dunn named to TN Board of Regents

Kenny Dunn

A White County High School graduate and lifetime resident of this community has been named by Gov. Phil Bredesen as one of the newest members of Tennessee Board of Regents.
Kenny Dunn received word about the prestigious honor several weeks ago, but the official announcement was released this week.
Dunn has been an instructor at Tennessee Technology Center at McMinnville since 2000 where he teaches classes in basic and computer numerical control machining, AutoCad and computer numerical control programming. He has been designated as a faculty representative on the Tennessee Board of Regents. His term will expire June 30, 2010.

Sparta couple named tops in Huddle House franchises

Four vehicles damaged in two separate crashes

Two injured. This red Neon (left) was damaged after its driver lost control when the brakes locked up while negotiating a curve and crashed into the gold Kia (right), sending it into the ditch on the north side of Ray Broyles Road.

Heavy damage. The driver of this vehicle was reportedly uninjured; although, the car was not capable of being driven after it crashed on Highway 111 on July 28.

Close call. Debris litters the area where two vehicles collided on Highway 111 near the Memorial Highway split, leaving both vehicles (the white SUV in the foreground and the black vehicle in the median) heavily damaged.

Methadone clinic in Sparta?

Vicinity. Kid’s World Academy sits atop the hill overlooking the area the executive director of Upper Cumberland Resource Agency said she had been told could be a possible site for a methadone clinic should such a facility decide to locate in Sparta. (Bottom right corner of photo)

Traffic. Highway 111, passes directly in front of Valley View Drive, close to Royal Inn, where a site has reportedly been suggested for a proposed methadone clinic.

Information received by The Expositor this week indicated possible attempts to place a methadone clinic in Sparta after permits were denied for proposed locations in Monterey and Spencer.

Warriors hit the practice field

The WCHS football team has been working hard all summer long, but that routine got ramped up a few notches when the pads went on and the hitting began Monday.
The Warriors were on the field at 7 a.m. Monday and ready to start official practice in preparation for their August 21st season opener. Shortly after the start, the sound of pads popping were echoing across Allen Drive.

WCHS golfers fall to CCHS in opener

Teeing off the season. Jesse Villard tees off during the opening match of the season for the WCHS golf team. Villard, a freshman, led the Warriors on the day shooting a 39. Cumberland County, however, came away with the victory.

The White County High School golf team opened their season Monday by hosting Cumberland County at the Sparta Country Club.
A short-handed WCHS squad, missing one girl and three boys on the afternoon for various reasons, could not keep pace with one of their new district opponents. Cumberland County took victories over both the Warriors and Warriorettes.
