Warriors fall to Wildcats in homecoming heartbreaker

Caleb Lowery catches the ball at the goal line and plunges forward for his third touchdown of the night. This gave the Warriors a 34-28 lead in overtime. Livingston, however, scored and converted the point after taking the 35-34 win over WCHS in overtime.

The fans at Warrior Stadium got their money’s worth Friday as a pair of high school teams collided and left everything they had on Dee Harris Field.
When the game ended, the Livingston sideline erupted in jubilation while the Sparta side of the field walked away broken hearted after losing a thriller by a score of 35-34 in overtime.

Willie Don Norris, 73, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 24, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Norris was born Sept. 4, 1936, in White County, to Casto Smith and Nancy Jane Phillips Norris.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Selby, and grandson, D.J. Norris.

Ricky Gene Henry, infant son of Larry and Betty Ruth Henry, of Sparta, was born and passed away Sept. 23, 2009, at River Park Hospital, in McMinnville.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna Louise Henry; uncle, Richard Dewayne Young; and aunt, Katherine Irelene Smith.

Sparta police officer fired

Sgt. Dale Dodson

Sparta Police Sgt. Dale Dodson was fired Sept. 14 based on allegations of official misconduct, according to Police Chief Jeff Guth.
Guth stated the department and the City of Sparta could not currently comment any further on the firing, which he described as a personnel matter.
According to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kristin Helm, the TBI was requested, by the district attorney general’s office, on Sept. 15, 2009, to open an investigation about allegations of misconduct against Dodson, a 16-year veteran officer with Sparta Police Department.

Third time charm for WCHS volleyball

Serving up victory. Lauryn Bouldin helped lead the Warriorettes to victory over Clay County with solid serving in Tuesday’s match.

The Warriorette volleyball team played host to Clay County Tuesday at Roy Sewell Gymnasium.
This would be the third meeting of the season between the two teams with Clay County having dominated the previous two matches. The Warriorettes opened their season in Celina back in August and were defeated by the Bulldogs. The two teams faced off for the second time this past weekend at the Jackson County tournament with CCHS again taking the match. WCHS golfers miss out on trip to state

Police searching for burglars and vandals

Sparta Police are looking for the perpetrators of several break-ins within the city.
According to Chief Jeff Guth with Sparta Police, someone broke into a truck parked on Allen Drive some time between Sept. 7 and Sept. 12 and took a Smith and Wesson model 66 357 pistol, valued at $550.
Guth also stated perpetrators broke into the office of Midway Motel some time between 6:30 p.m. Sept 19 and 12:33 a.m. Sept. 20 and took $600 in cash. The report estimated damage caused during entry into the building was $250 for a total loss of approximately $850.

County rejects $125,000 for E-911

White County commissioners voted Monday night to amend a resolution from Steering Committee B that had proposed an additional $125,000 funding for E-911.
During the Sept. 14, 2009, meeting of Steering Committee B, Commission Chairman Terry Alley proposed to provide the emergency communications district with an extra $125,000. The county had already appropriated $75,000 for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The resolution received a majority vote and was sent to the full commission for final action, on Sept. 21.

BonDeCroft Utility Board addresses concerns

The list of questions for directors of the BonDeCroft Utility District grew at the Board’s September meeting when they were presented with a new list of 35 questions from residents.
Danny Brock, the utility’s general manager, reported to the Board and those in attendance of several changes in an effort to address the concerns of residents made evident at the Board’s August meeting, as well as at a community meeting that took place shortly after the Board’s last meeting.
Brock stated the office of the utility is now open five days a week, following the hiring of an additional office assistant.
