Sonic Shootout tips off today

The 2nd annual Sonic Shootout tips off this morning at 9 a.m. at Roy Sewell Gymnasium with a full slate of games on tap.
The home standing Warriors and Warriorettes wrap up the first day of action with the final two contests of the opening day. Both teams will take on Daniel Boone High School from Gray, Tennessee. The Warriors play at 6 p.m. followed by the Warriorettes at 7:30.
The Shootout was resurrected last year after being on hiatus since 2003.

Deborah Elaine McCulley Rodgers, 51, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 25, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Rodgers was born Nov. 8, 1958, in White County, to Loyd and Ola Steele McCulley.
She was an employee of Federal Mogul in Sparta.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Rodgers, of Sparta; daughter, Courtney Taylor Rodgers, of Sparta; brother, Jimmy McCulley, of Sparta; sister, Mary Ruth Stamps, of Sparta; two stepdaughters, Julie Seibers of Sparta and Bobbie Michelle Yates, both of Sparta; and four grandchildren, Ashley Seiber, Savannah Yates, Sebastian Seibers and Sophie Knowles.

Tillman Cason (T.C.) Howell, 1931-2009

Tillman Cason (T.C.) Howell, 78, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 22, 2009.
Mr. Howell, was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Paris, Tenn., to William Ira Howell and Gladys Griffin Howell.
Mr. Howell received his doctor of pharmacy degree from UT Memphis School of Pharmacy and worked as a pharmacist in Sparta more than 40 years. He was a church elder at Cumberland Heights Church of Christ. His favorite pastimes were UT sports, riding his lawnmower and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Amanda Sims.

Roberta Lea (Bobbie) Austin, 58, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 24, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Austin was born April 22, 1951, in White County, to Alfred Jackson and Ida Phillips Barlow.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Justin Rose and Lonnie Young, and two sisters, Ardith Wampler and Daisy Bell Barlow.
She was an employee of Federal Mogul.

Ronald Barry Muller, 70, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 22, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Sharp Muller, of Sparta; two sons, Greg Muller and Doug Muller, both of Nashville; two stepchildren, Doug Kieffer and Carolyn Keiffer, both of Sparta; and one brother, Bill Muller, of Lebanon.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m., Dec. 23, 2009, at Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until time for the service, on Dec. 23.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Warriors drop two games in Carpet Capital Classic

The Warriorette basketball team played a pair of games in the Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, Georgia over the weekend and came back to Sparta with a 1-1 mark in the contests.

Bobbie Ross Shubert, 66, of Cookeville, passed away Dec. 18, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Shubert was born July 11, 1943, in Michigan.
He served in the U.S. Army and had been self-employed in the sawmill and trucking business.
Mr. Shubert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Shubert, and niece, Catherine Shubert.

WCHS 8th grade teams undefeated in conference play

Reba Alice Swindell Graham, 84, of Doyle, passed away Dec. 17, 2009, in Dunlap.
Mrs. Graham was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Doyle, to Thomas Harley Swindell and Cora Alice Holton Swindell.
She enjoyed he years she lived in Florida as she had many friends, and she enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with her family.
