Freshman teams sweep Warren County

Franklin Gene Kirby, 74, passed away Dec. 16, 2009, at his residence in Doyle.
Mr. Kirby was born Sept. 9, 1935, in White County, to David Franklin and Mattie Lou England Kirby.
He was a sawmill worker.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Kirby, of Doyle; son, Ricky Mace, of Sparta; daughter, Emma Francis and husband Rob, of Lady Lake, Fla.; granddaughters, Chasity Jean Allen and husband John of Lady Lake, Fla., Addison Elizabeth Mace; great-granddaughter, Breanna Allen, of Lady Lake, Fla.; and
Sisters, Reba Dodge and Ruby Brown, both of Sparta

Students presented with humbling award

Federal Mogul granted PILOT program

White County Industrial Development Board has recommended a ‘Payment-In-Lieu-Of-Taxes’ program for Federal Mogul that will hopefully help the company remain a viable business in the community.
Jim Keating, plant manager for Federal Mogul in Sparta, met with members of the board, on Monday. Wallace Austin, president of Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce, explained the request to board members.
Austin had been working with the assessor of property’s office about some PILOT programs. During his research, Austin discovered Federal Mogul’s PILOT, which began in 1996, expired the first of December … CONTINUED

Girthree Cash Williams, 95, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 6, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Williams was born July 20, 1914, in White County, to Sam and Rinda Bowman Cash.
She had been married to Sheila Mire Williams.
Survivors include two sons, Rodger Williams and wife Helen, Billy Williams and wife Joan, all of Sparta; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was graveside at 3 p.m., Dec. 7, 2009, at Saylors Cemetery. Paul Allen officiated.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Nola Pearl Cole

Nola Pearl Cole, 93, passed away Dec. 11, 2009, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Mrs. Cole was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Habersham County, Gal, to John and Mattie Clark.
She was a member of Athens Church of Christ. Mrs. Cole was a loving wife, mother and a wonderful cook, gardener and housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Waymon O. Cole; three sons, Dale E. Cole, Johnny Norris Cole, William Morris Cole; one grandson, Michael Johnson; one great-grandson, Jeremiah Geiger; two sisters, Christin Clark, Mattie Garrison; and three brothers, Walter, Collis and Vermon Clark.

Clarence Alvin Templeton

Clarence Alvin Templeton, 69, of Quebeck, passed away Dec. 10, 2009, at River Park Hospital, in McMinnville.
Mr. Templeton was born March 12, 1940, in Warren County, to Charlie Templeton and Erron Breedlove Templeton.
He had been the owner of Templeton Auto Salvage.
Survivors include one son, Darren Templeton and wife Tina, of Smithville; two daughters, Geta Geer, of Walling, Jalaine Payne and wife Jalaine, of Sparta; three grandchildren, Dillon Templeton, Colby Payne, Connor Payne; sister, Armanda Morgan and husband George, of Kentucky; brother, Vestal Templeton and wife Peggy, of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hillis was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Van Buren County.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.


Erbie Gene Hutchings

In honor and remembrance of service to his country.

Erbie Gene Hutchings, 78, of Baxter, passed away Dec. 10, 2009, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mr. Hutchings was born July 7, 1931, in White County, to Ammon and Ruby Clark Hutchings.
He was a member of Baxter United Methodist Church. All who knew him understood the pleasure he took in providing a thoughtful act of service or gift. Mr. Hutchings was a graduate of White County High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ashtabula, during the Korean Conflict, 1952-1956.
