Warriorettes move into tie for first place with win

Coming through. Tasha Delaney came through with some big shots for the Warriorettes. The senior had 11 of her 18 points in the final four minutes of the win over Cookeville.

While many across the midstate were planning for a large snowfall, the Warriorettes had one thing on their mind Thursday night – ending their drought against Cookeville.
As members of the varsity, the Warriorette seniors had never beaten the Lady Cavaliers. In fact, the last time the Warriorettes had beaten Cookeville was in February of 2006. The Lady Cavaliers had won six in a row … CONTINUED

If Tuesday’s game against Warren County was played at a frantic pace, the Warrior game against Cookeville was played at a snail’s pace.

James Royce Bean, 63, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Bean was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Indiana.
He had been a heavy equipment operator for Stanley Daniels and attended Hickory Valley Baptist Church.
Mr. Bean was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon Love Dailey; and an uncle, Cecil.
Survivors include his wife, Estell Bean, of Sparta; three daughters, Melissa Anderson, Lori Wood, Carla Riche, all of Burkesville, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Love, Cindy Ferrill, both of Cookeville; two brothers, Danny Joe Bean, Kenneth Bean, both of Burkesville, Ky.; one sister, Anna Ruth Gilbert, of Russell Springs, Ky.; … CONTINUED


Charles Edward Smith

Charles Edward Smith, 62, of Livingston, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Overton County, to Irby and Ethel Sells Smith.
A memorial service will be Jan. 28, 2010, at Green Hills Cemetery, in Livingston.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Ralph Farley

Ralph Farley, 81, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Farley was born Dec. 11, 1928, in White County, to Rice Haskell and Margie Taylor Farley.
Survivors include his brothers, Dale Farley, of Sparta, and Donnie Farley, of Smithville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., Jan. 27, 2010, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Howard Cemetery. David Wilson officiated.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ova Allen Wilson

Ova Allen Wilson, 100, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mrs. Wilson was born July 13, 1909, in Gainesboro, to Russell Thomas Allen and Louisa Smith Allen.
She had been a homemaker. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and visits with her friends and relatives. She loved church and reading her Bible. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, James Rufus Wilson; five sisters, Avo Allen, Edna Barnes, Mary Melton, Susie Florence Bean, Annie Hawkins; one brother, William Cardell Allen; and one grandson, Ronnie Weaver.

Violet Foster Rigsby

Violet Foster Rigsby, 92, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Doyle, passed away Jan. 18, 2010, at Mountain View Healthcare Center, in El Paso.
Mrs. Rigsby was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Van Buren County, to Will and Sarah Catherine Alverson Foster.
She was a beautician and a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Rigsby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paris C. Rigsby; one sister, Evelyn Murez; and two brothers, Ed Foster and William Ernest Foster.
Survivors include one sister, Kathleen Panter, of Pikeville; special niece, Dorothy Murez Swack and husband Gary, of El Paso; and several other nieces and nephews.

Connie Annette Kirby Henry, 53, of Smithville, passed away Jan. 27, 2010, at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Mrs. Henry was a teacher.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Ruth Hyder Kirby.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Henry, of Smithville; daughter, Jennifer Annette Henry, of Smithville; father, William Clinton Kirby, of Sparta; brother, Warren Kirby, of Sparta; 16 nephews; and 10 nieces.

Helen Schattschneider

Helen Schattschneider, 85, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 23, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Schattschneider was born Oct. 30, 1924, in Cairo, Egypt, to Stavros and Evdoxia Tsitsimbidis Eliadis.
She was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
Mrs. Schattschneider grew up in Egypt, and at the age of 22 moved to the United Stats. She prided herself in being a “World War II bride.” She was a homemaker and taught language. She was fluent in Greek, Arabic, English and Italian.
Mrs. Schattschneider was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Schattschneider; one brother, Dimitrius Eliadis; and three sisters, Maria Brown, Roxoula Ahlborn and Fanoula Baharis.

Ann Vinson Jones, 71, passed away Jan. 28, 2010, at ther residence.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Orlando, Fla., to Garrett and Hatha Burgess Vinson.
“MeMe,” as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored, owned and operated Odie’s Drive-In Restaurant for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a life-long companion, Jim Jones; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Katherine Vinson, Milse and Charlie Butler; and three brothers, Garrett Jr., Harold (Brains) and Charles Vinson.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Spellings and husband Troy, Carrie Martin and fiancé Paul Hunter, all of Jackson County; grandchildren, Shannon and Shane Abbott, … CONTINUED
