Ruth Jo Adcox, 84, passed away April 29, 2010, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Mrs. Adcox was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Putnam County, to Seth Foster and Amanda Randolph Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Warner Adcox; children, Edgar Conley, Romana Louise Woody, Sharon Marisical; grandchild, Tammy Marie Williams; brothers, Henry, Charlie, Ed, Allen Foster; and sisters, Ruby Byrd, Reba Bumbalough and Virgie Bumbalough.

Warriors fall to Pioneers in district tilt

Throwing to first. Freshman Kane Young, who played second base in the game at Warren County, throws to first base for an out. The Warriors were defeated 5-1 by the Pioneers.

The White County High School baseball team is jockeying for District 6AAA positioning in the final series of the league regular season slate and left themselves with a crucial final game.

Mary Louise Smith Verble, 93, of Sparta, passed away April 29, 2010, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mrs. Verble was born May 15, 1916, in White County, to James M. and Vesta Shuster Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nolen Rye Verble; son, John William Verble; and a brother, J.W. Smith.

Delaney signs with Roane State

Signing to play more hoops. Last week, Tasha Delaney inked a letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Roane State Community College. WCHS tennis drops district matches

Forced inside. Being able to play the district 6AAA team tournament outside was not a luxury afforded the teams due to rain. Monday’s tournament was moved inside and was a very long process. Both the Warriors and Warriorettes were defeated in the semifinals. Tuesday’s individual tournament was postponed until Wednesday in hopes of more ideal weather.

The White County High School tennis teams dropped two district tournament matches under tough circumstances on Monday.
Rain forced the tournament to Cookeville’s indoor courts of which there are only two, therefore making for long contests.
The Warriors started the day out against a very strong Warren County team.

TN Meth Task Force director conducts training in Sparta

Members of emergency services and landfill employees were among several who attended a recent methamphetamine training session conducted by TBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tommy Farmer, who is also the director of Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force.
Farmer’s vast knowledge of the subject provided attendees with a much deeper insight of the meth epidemic. With his PowerPoint presentation as a secondary source of information, Farmer did most of his talking strictly from memory – a memory of the numerous clandestine labs he has encountered during his many years in law enforcement.

Driver injured in single-vehicle crash

Crash. This compact pickup truck smashed into the tree at left, after it left the wet roadway on Pollard Road. Both the driver and a 12-year-old passenger were wearing their seatbelts.

Injured driver. Personnel with White County Emergency Medical Services, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad and Central View Volunteer Fire Department work as a team to get the injured driver, involved in a crash on Pollard Road, on Apr. 26, to the hospital.

A White County woman suffered non life-threatening injuries in a crash, on Apr. 26, at approximately 1:30 p.m., on Pollard Road, in the southwestern portion of White County.

Marijuana discovered growing in window

Good light. This photo shows the 24 marijuana plants officers found “in plain view from the street” in the window of a back room. Other items were also found in the back room, including fertilizer and drug paraphernalia.

Officers with White County Sheriff Department confiscated 24 marijuana plants, on Apr. 27, at approximately 8:30 a.m., which were discovered growing in a window at a residence in the southern portion of White County.

Totsie Ada Moore Hinkel, 79, of Sparta, passed away April 29, 2010, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mrs. Hinkel was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Locksburg, Ark., to Charles A. and Annie Hudson Moore.
She was a nurse and later a homemaker.
Mrs. Hinkel was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lester Moore.
Survivors include her husband, Louis H. Hinkel, of Sparta; daughter, Patricia Young and husband Charles, of Sparta; son, Louis H. K-9 Deputy ‘Duco’ with White County Sheriff Department

K-9 Deputy ‘Duco’ with White County Sheriff Department captured a Quebeck man, on Apr. 25, after the man fled during a traffic stop.
According to a report by Deputy Joey Williams with WCSD, Williams was monitoring traffic on Highway 111, in the area of Winding Lane.
The report states Williams began following a northbound silver Buick, which turned onto Winding Lane.
Reportedly, the vehicle’s right turn light was activated; then, the vehicle abruptly turned left into a driveway.
Williams reportedly activated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle for suspicion of DUI.

Linville Dwight Carter, 58, of Walling, passed away April 27, 2010.
Mr. Carter was born Nov. 2, 1951, in White County, to Donald Carter and Pearl Swindell.
He had been a supervisor at Tennsmith Inc.

Willie Reece (Bill) Norris went to be with the Lord, on April 26, 2010.
Mr. Norris was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Sparta.
He finished school just as World War II broke out. When he was unable to enlist for the Armed Service, Mr. Norrise went North to work for the war in the auto industry.

Thurman Leroy Bumbalough, 92, of Sparta, passed away
April 26, 2010, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mr. Bumbalough was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Cumberland County, to Norman Isaac Bumbalough and Nancy Josephine Holmes Bumbalough.
He was a lifetime member of the Sparta community. He enjoyed fishing and his family and friends. He worked as a roofer for many years.
