Warriors headed to playoffs

The Warrior football team earned their second consecutive trip to the TSSAA state playoffs with their 32-0 win over Cumberland County Friday in Crossville.
Depsite a loss by Cookeville that gave Coffee County the district championship and the Cavaliers the second spot, WCHS got in as a wildcard.  They will travel to Tullahoma Friday to take on the Wildcats (7-3) in the opening round.  That game is set to kick off at 7 p.m.

Two earn spots in cross country state

Alex Stover (left) and Morgan Voyles earned spots in the TSSAA state cross country meet with Top 10 performances in the Region 3AAA race.

For the fifth straight year, White County High School has had a runner earn a spot in the TSSAA cross country state meet. 
Actually, this fall, for the second straight time, WCHS will have two runners headed to the state.  Morgan Voyles and Alex Stover both finsihed in the top 10 in the Region 3AAA race held at Chickamauga Dam in Chattanooga.
The two will run on Saturday, November 6th, at Steeplechase in Nashville.

Child welfare check yields arrest

A White County woman was arrested, on Oct. 23, at a Jared Road residence when law enforcement officers conducted a welfare check on children who were supposed to be living at the residence.
According to White County Sheriff Oddie Shoupe, officers repeatedly knocked on the door and were refused entry, causing them to make a forced entry to check on the children.
Shoupe stated they came into contact with Carla Michele Tallent, 28, who reportedly was “messed up” on some kind of drug.
During a subsequent search, a vial of meth was reportedly discovered, along with marijuana.

Hobbs faces multiple charges

A Sparta man faces several charges after a traffic stop, on Oct. 24, led to the discovery of methamphetamine.
According to a report by Deputy Daniel Trivette, a white four-door Kia car was seen, at approximately 12:07 a.m., leaving the parking lot of Ades’ Place bar on Disneyland Road, in Doyle, at a high rate of speed, being followed by another small passenger vehicle.
Trivette reported seeing the driver of the Kia make several maneuvers that he determined to be “very unsafe to the occupants of the vehicle and others on the road.”

Sex offenders restricted from Halloween activities

White County’s 59 registered sex offenders, who are under the supervision of Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole, have once again been notified they cannot take part in any Halloween activities or any event that is considered a fall or harvest carnival.
According to BOPP Executive Bo Irvin, public safety is the primary mission of the department during this annual observance. Each sex offender has reportedly signed a letter acknowledging he/she is prohibited from participating in Halloween activities.
The letters advise sex offenders:
•Neither they, nor anyone in their home, can answer the door to trick-or-treaters on Halloween;
•They cannot pass out candy;

Talking about the Warriorettes. WCHS girls’ basketball coach, Bryan Haley, spoke to the media and other coaches about the 2010-11 Warriorettes.

The coaches and media of District 6AAA got together for their annual preseason meeting one week before the official start of high school basketball practice.
The preseason luncheon was held Monday at the First National Bank in Crossville and hosted by Cumberland County High School.

Region cross country meet today

The White County High School cross country runners will be lining up and giving their best shot Thursday with a trip to the TSSAA state meet on the line.
Region 3AAA is one of three regions holding their state qualifying race at Chickamauga Dam in Chattanooga on Thursday. The top three teams will qualify as well as any runner not on those teams that places in the top 10 runners overall.
The Warrior runners will compete in their race at 10:45 (central time) Thursday morning. The Warriorette runners will come back and race at 1:45 p.m.

White County escapes severe storm damage

Warning. The recently installed tornado sirens were activated Oct. 26 after a warning was issued for White County.

A storm front that is usually only associated with springtime weather moved through White County, on Oct. 26, leaving area residents grateful for having ‘dodged the bullet’ when the powerful winds left a trail of debris.
White County E-911 dispatchers quickly relayed the tornado warning, at 2:10 p.m., to emergency services personnel via radio transmissions and simultaneously activated the two recently installed tornado sirens. Sixth grade teams win Baxter tournament

Running the point. Sebastian Dunham handles the point guard duties for the sixth grade Warriors during their win over Harris Middle School Monday night. Both the Warriors and Warriorettes also won the Baxter tournament recently.

Both the sixth grade Warrior and Warriorette basketball teams captured the championship of the recent Baxter tournament.
The Warriors defeated the host team 34-21 in the title game. WCMS led 9-8 after one and stretched their advantage to 20-14 at the half. Pierce Whited led the Warriors with 12 points. The final home game of the 2010 season proved to be a tough outing for the Warriors when they played host to the Shelbyville Golden Eagles Friday night at Dee Harris Field.
On senior night, WCHS struggled to get anything going offensively in the contest managing only101 yards of total offense while the Golden Eagles took advantage of good field position and amassed 362 yards total on the way to the 41-7 victory over the Warriors.
