Mike Anthony Henry, 51, of Doyle, passed away July 2, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Henry was born June 9, 1960, in White County, to Jimmy Newton and Alice Brown Henry.
He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Newton Henry and sister Marsha Kaye Sullivan.
Survivors include his mother, Alice Brown Smith, of Doyle; three brothers, Gary Smith, of Sparta, Ricky Henry, of Doyle, Jimmy Henry, of Sparta; two sisters, Sharon Officer, of Sparta, Pamela Jacobs, of Grand Saline, Texas; nieces and nephews, Robbie, Andy, Kacey, Sonia, Brandon, Ashley, Cody, Dakota, Audrey, Crystal, Jennifer, Robert, Jason, Gizzy, Eric, Terry, Leslie; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Charles Robert (Bob) Cunningham, 78, of Sparta, passed July 5, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Cunningham was born May 6, 1933, in Sparta, to John and Juanita Hensley Cunningham.
He was the owner and operator of White County Lumber Company more than 50 years. Mr. Cunningham was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church.

Lucille Jones Young, 86, of Doyle, passed away July 4, 2011, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Young was born Feb. 19, 1925, in White County, to Estel and Fannie Kirby Jones.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis Young Sr.; a son, R. L. Young; and daughter, Anna Lee Pittman.

Arvil Edward Tollison, 41, of Sparta, passed away July 3, 2011, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Tollison was born Oct. 29, 1969, in Nashville, to Arvil (Buck) and Amy Sue Williams Tollison.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Pearl Williams and Casto and Odella Tollison.
Survivors include his parents, Buck and Amy Tollison; daughters, Destiny and Addison; cousins, Rick, Randy and Beverly; and girlfriend, Julie Locke

Curlee Knowles, 78 of Walling, passed away July 2, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Knowles was born March 15, 1933, to Plummer and Lora Wright Knowles.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired employee of LTD.
Mr. Knowles was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Ivres Rigsby Knowles, of Walling; four sons, Lewis Knowles, of Sparta, David Knowles, Jerry Knowles, Marion Knowles, all of Walling; two daughters, Donna Poling, of Walling, Katherine Adkins, of Sparta; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Raymond Harold Jared, a man more defined in how he lived rather than what he did, age 79, of Jared Road, Walling, died July 6, 2011 at his residence.
Although a dedicated dairyman who pioneered a business for his family, he is more honored through his all-American legacy of Christian faith and love for family.
His first act as an expectant father was asking God to make his children servants of the Lord in being positively active in their residing communities. That answered prayer continues to resound throughout his lineage of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to this day.

Floyd J. Madewell

Floyd J. Madewell, 79, of Piqua, Ohio, passed away July 6, 2011, surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Mr. Madewell was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Elkhart, Kan., to the Kelly and Vina Clouse Madewell.
He married Barbara West Hitchcock, on July 5, 1994, in Sparta. She preceded him in death, on Dec. 19, 2005.
Mr. Madewell retired from Delco Products of Dayton after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, boating, collecting antiques, and time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roosevelt, Riley, James; and three sisters, Lennie Mae, Edna, and Ethel.

Robert Reed Wright, 80, passed away July 6, 2011, at Woodbury Health Care Center, in Woodbury.
Mr. Wright born Aug. 8, 1930, in DeKalb County, to James Everett Wright and Effie Mae Henderson Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thurman Wright, Clifton Wright, Othel Wright; and sisters, Claris Cope, Lois Vaughn, Mary O’Dell Clark, Beatrice Humphrey, and Ruth Geneva Wright.
He is survived by a loving sister, Opal Wright Wood, of Walling; two brothers, Larry McBride, of Rock Island, Garry McBride and wife Carolyn, of Smithville; and many nieces and nephews.

TBI begins “Blue Alert” program on July 1

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation now has the ability to begin issuing Blue Alerts, as of July 1, 2011, as established by a new law requiring the agency to develop a system for the rapid dissemination of information to the public to assist in apprehending violent criminals who kill or seriously injure law enforcement officers in the line of duty or to aid in locating a missing officer where foul play is involved.
The program will use the statewide infrastructure of the existing AMBER Alert system, which pushes out critical information to citizens to assist in locating a missing child who is in imminent danger.

TWRA officers remain diligent on area lakes

Sobriety check. A boater on an area lake is checked for sobriety by an officer with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, as part of Operation Dry Water. TWRA officials will continue through the Fourth of July holiday weekend to diligently check local lakes and waterways for boat operators, who are drinking and boating.

During the weekend of June 24 through 26, officers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency participated in a nationwide effort called Operation Dry Water to crack down on boat operators under the influence of alcohol and drugs on state waters.
