Vera Margaret Swindell Lancaster, 1919-2011

Vera Margaret Swindell Lancaster, 92, of Cookeville, passed away Nov. 30, 2011, at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville.
Mrs. Lancaster was born June 27, 1919, in Sparta, to Pleas Anderson Swindell and Della Worley Swindell.
She was a homemaker and member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, in Cookeville.
Mrs. Lancaster was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Herchel Swindell, Herman Swindell, Tom Swindell, Albert Swindell, Robert Lee Swindell Sr.; and two sisters, Treva Swindell Reeves and Alberta Swindell Speck Cayce.

Roger Dean Riddle, 40, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 21, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Riddle was born Dec. 10, 1970 in Columbus, Ind., to John Riddle and Ida Elizabeth Fields Long.
Funeral service was graveside, at 11 a.m., at Plainview Cemetery, in the Cassville community.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


William Preston Hickey Sr.

William Preston Hickey Sr., 91, of Spencer, passed away Nov. 19, 2011, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hickey was born Nov. 18, 1920, in West Seneca, NY, to James Udell and Ruth Louise Schenk Hickey.
He earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, in 1943, from University of Michigan. He continued his education and graduated from John Marshall Law School, in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1951.
Following graduation, Mr. Hickey began private law practice. He was particularly fond of inventions and enjoyed helping inventors with new ideas as a patent attorney.
He was full of life. His hobbies included flying, farming, ballroom dancing and musical instruments.

Nell Halteman Anderson, 89, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 22, 2011, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Anderson was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Van Buren County, to John C. Halteman and Sena Slatten Halteman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde Anderson; brother, J. C. Halteman; and sisters, Ernestine Brown, Elnora Moore, Mary Van Mason and Jo Ann Mason.
Survivors include her daughter, Faye Keen, of Nashville; son, William G. Anderson and wife Gloria, of Mt. Juliet; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Herbert Earl Officer, 80, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 23, 2011, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Officer was born Nov. 5, 1931, in White County, to
Mack and Willie Frances Carrick Officer.
He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a retired custodian for White County Board of Education, working at East Sparta and Woodland Park elementary schools, as well as the offices of Dr. Baker, Dr. Bradley and Dr. Andrews.

Ethel Lorene Rich Young, 90, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 16, 2011, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Mrs. Young was born Oct. 27, 1921, in White County, to Jesse James Rich and Helen Pryor Rich.
She was a member of West Sparta Church of Christ.

Larry James Barlow, 62, of Antioch, passed away Nov. 16, 2011, at his resident.
Mr. Barlow as born March 5, 1949, in Sherman, Texas, to Powell Lewis Barlow and Dorothy Underwood Barlow.
He was a retired self-employed auto mechanic.
Mr. Barlow was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Melissa Wilson, of Smyrna; two nieces, Meredith Wilson, of Smyrna, Miranda Wilson and husband Scott, of Quebeck; and two great-nieces, Katy Wilson and Kayla Wilson.
Funeral service was 11 a.m., Nov. 19, 2011, at High Funeral Home, in McMinnville, with burial in Preston Heights Cemetery, in White County. Jerry Pullum officiated.
