Farmers’ Market now estimated at more than $200,000

White County commissioners got a look at the most recent plans for a proposed farmers’ market that stunned the group when the county executive explained the most recent estimate to construct the facility.
The discussion took place during the recent meeting of Steering Committee A, of White County Board of Commissioners.
Metcalf Park, in downtown Sparta, has been the most recently discussed site for a joint venture between the city and the county in building the farmers’ market. Carl Douglas Frasier Sr., 89, passed away May 7, 2012, at La Villa Grand Care Center.
Mr. Frasier was born Feb. 5, 1923, in the Clifty community, to Bessie Lyles Frasier and Albert Franklin Gracey Frasier.
Mr. Frasier’s mother Carl’s mother passed away in Grundy, Va., from a failed hospital surgery, forcing him to drop out of school in the eighth grade and to help raise his younger siblings.
Mr. Frasier was a proud member of The Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard. He participated in many of the 1500 Veteran Memorial Services conducted at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction. His Navy dress uniform is on display at … Read More

Jerry Lee Rogers Sr., 63 of Quebeck, passed away May 17, 2012, at Highlands Medical Center.
Mr. Rogers was born Jan. 7, 1949, in White County, to Hershel and Clara Lee Williams Rogers, who preceded him in death.
He was a retired welder from Thomas Industries.

John Argie Clouse, 79, of Spencer, passed away May 14, 2012, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Clouse was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Pound, Va., to Norman and Lily Mullins Crouse.

Alford B. Daniels, 93, of Sparta, passed away Sunday, at DeKalb Community Hospital.
Mr. Daniels was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Clay County, to Vaden and Edna Kirby Daniels.
He was retired from Thomas Industries, as well as a farmer, but better known to many as a master gardener.
Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie Elizabeth Lowhorn Daniels; and several brother and sisters.

Mrs. Riemann, was born Nov. 25, 1946, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Frank and Vivian Nesbitt.
Funeral service was graveside at 11 a.m., May 18, 2012, at Plainview Cemetery, in the Cassville community. Bro. Bill Lowery officiated.

Hattie Kathryn Davis, 76, of Sparta, passed away May 19, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Austin, Ind., to Kenneth Johnson and Georgia May Orff Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years, David Lee Davis.

Youth camps galore ahead

The Warriorette basketball and Warrior football camps have already been announced.
Since then a couple other of the high school coaches have announced their camps. Coach Eric Mitchell has set the time for his Warrior youth camp and WCHS tennis coach, Nicole Delaney, has set her camps.
Warrior basketball camp will be held Monday, June 4th, to Wednesday, June 6th at Roy Sewell Gymnasium. The camp will be 8-10 a.m. each day at a cost of $40 per camper. The camp is open to students in third through eighth grade for the coming 2012-13 school year. Early registration will be from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 3rd.

Voyles readying for 6th appearance in the state

    Competing in the state has become a given for WCHS runner, Morgan Voyles.
    When she hits the track at MTSU Wednesday, it will be the sixth state appearance for the junior.  She has already qualified three times for the state cross country meet and this will be her third appearance in the Spring Fling State Track meet. 
    Voyles will be competing in two events at this spring’s meet. 
    She comes in as the Section 2 champion in the 800m and has the seventh best qualifying time of the 16 runners who advanced in that event.  Her time in the sectional was 2:22.87 and was a personal best.  The … Read More
