Alleged burglars caught at Sparta residence

Sgt. Daniel Trivette, of White County Sheriff Department, responded to a burglary in progress on April 16, and reportedly caught three suspects “in the act” of burglarizing a home on Penny Lane, in Sparta. According to a report by Sgt. Trivette, he had been informed by E-911 dispatchers that neighbors stated they saw a truck pull into the driveway of a residence where owners were not at home, and two subjects jumped out of the truck and ran inside the house.

Judy Marlene Mabe Parsons, 59, of Sparta, passed away April 17, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Parsons was born Sept. 30, 1953, in the Cedar Creek community of White County, to Elbert and Hazel Young Mabe.
She worked 30 years at Doyle Shirt Factory, loved sewing and was a member of the Lord’s Chapel on the Mountain.
Mrs. Parson was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Eligah Pollard; brother, Wesley Mabe; and son-in-law Tracy Graham.

Baseball drops 6AAA series to Coffee County

District games continue to be a problem for the Warrior baseball team.

WCHS alumni football game set for next week

Spring practice. The Warrior football team will wrap up spring practice with the Maroon and Gray game and an alumni game on Friday, April 26th. Any former players interested in playing should contact Coach Matthan Houser.

The Warrior football team is currently in the middle of their spring drills, which will culminate next week with the second annual alumni game and the Maroon and Gray intrasquad game.
The Warriors will have had 10 days of spring practice over a three-week period when they wrap up spring practice on Friday, April 26th, with the two games.

Tennis in midst of busy week

Still prefect in district play. Warriorette junior, Lacee Hitchcock, kept her singles district mark perfect this week with wins over opponents from Cumberland County and Warren County. WCHS defeated Cumberland, but lost to Warren.

The White County High School tennis team started a busy week with District 6AAA matches at home on both Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, WCHS played host to Cumberland County and came away with a sweep of the day’s action. The results were not as good on Tuesday as Warren County was the one pulling the sweep.

Cycle crash injures one

A traffic crash occurred on April 12 when a Dodge Ram crashed into a motorcycle at a location that officers describe as “a bad hill.” Jack Rice, of Cookeville, was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for a precautionary evaluation.

A blind hill at the intersection of Coles Chapel Road and Burgess Falls Road reportedly played a major role in a crash that occurred April 12 and left a motorcyclist injured.
According to Lt. Chadra Daniels, of White County Sheriff Department, a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Richard Nash, of Sparta, was attempting to make a left turn from Coles Chapel Road onto Burgess Falls Road.

Twelve out of 14 commissioners voted in favor of a wheel tax Monday night that would fund healthcare for county employees.
County commissioners have struggled with a decision about the manner in which they would secure funding for the federal mandate set forth through the Affordable Care Act, which will go into effect Jan. 1, 2014. During the April 15, 2013, meeting of White County Board of Commissioners, approximately 50 taxpayers were in attendance to hear how their respective representatives voted and to express their opinions about the proposed tax.

32-year-old dies in crash

A crash on April 14 in Rock Island has taken the life of 32-year-old Daniel Caldwell, who, according to troopers, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Hwy. 70 and Route 136. Caldwell collided with a tractor trailer driven by Jorge Moreira, who troopers say only survived because he was wearing his seat belt.

Ethel M. Worley Perrine, 96, of Sparta, passed away April 16, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Perrine was born May 23, 1916, in Honey Grove, Texas, to William Logan and Roena Harrison Worley.
She was a retired accountant, a member of the Eastern Star, bridge player and joke teller.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Doyle Church of Christ.
Mrs. Perrine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack Perrine; brothers, Joe Worley, William Logan “Dub” Worley Jr., John Worley; and sisters, Cora LeBleu, Zeta Swindell and Vina Worley.

Martha Ellen Whidden Peters, 93, of Sparta, passed away March 4, 2013, at Standing Stone Care and Rehab, in Monterey.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., April 20, 2013, at Ravenscroft Church of God. It will be conducted by her children and those who loved and cared for her. Refreshments and fellowship will follow at the home of Kenneth and Pat Peters.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dale Guy, 62, of Sparta, passed away April 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Guy was born June 16, 1950, in White County, to Lattie Hayes Guy and Margarette Milligan Guy. He was an employee of THK “Rhythm” and a member of North Sparta Church of God. He was a fan of University of Tennessee athletics, yard sales and his chickens, but mostly he was a proud family man. I
