Brenda Nell Young Spivey, 52, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 18, 2013, at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mrs. Spivey was born April 5, 1961, in White County, to James Edward and Anna Pauline Cumby Young.
She was a former shirt factory employee.
Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Lee “Pete” Young.

Margie E. Felton, 83, passed away Nov. 12, 2013, at Sheltering Arms Home, in Palmer.
Mrs. Felton was bon Feb. 21, 1930, in Jasper, to Luther Bryan and Della Ophelia Caldwell Johnson
She was a member of the Church of Christ attending at Gruetli-Laager.
Mrs. Felton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Paul Felton; stepson, Thomas Felton; sisters, Irene Pickett, Willa Mae Collins; and brothers, Mitchell, Sydney and Hammon Johnson.

In their most recent outing, the eighth grade teams hosted Harris Middle School from Shelbyville Monday in Central Tennessee Conference action and ended with a split.

Guarded on all sides. Cade Crosland handles the pressure well from not only a Dragon defender, but also the York student section. The Warriors outscored the Dragons 24-15 in the final period for the 64-58 victory, their third in as many games this season.

County employees receive new insurance packets

Passing the wheel tax was only the first hurdle in providing county employees with health insurance. After an exhaustive three-month process, county employees have now received their insurance information packets and can begin choosing the plan best for them and their families.
To begin the process of bringing insurance to White County employees, Finance Director Chad Marcum placed an advertisement with an invitation to submit a proposal in the Aug. 12 edition of the Expositor with an Aug. 26 deadline.

Woman arrested for allegedly stealing checks, identities of White Co. residents

A Florida woman who reportedly has a lengthy criminal history of defrauding and passing forged instruments is now being held in the White County Jail, as detectives say she has stolen checks and identities of residents in White County.
According to Detective John Ford of the White County Sheriff Department, he was initially contacted when blank checks were allegedly stolen from the mailbox of a White County man, and a female was reportedly attempting to pass them at a bank in Gallatin.

Deputy DA McKenzie seeking 13th District Criminal Court judge seat

Running for criminal court seat. Deputy District Attorney, Gary McKenzie, has announced his candidacy for the 13th Judicial District Criminal Court Judge.

After 13 years of trying cases in criminal court, Deputy District Attorney Gary McKenzie felt that it was time for a big change, a change that could have him making rulings on cases rather than prosecuting them.
On Nov. 11, McKenzie, who is the lead prosecutor of homicide and violent crimes in Cumberland, White and Dekalb counties, announced his candidacy for Criminal Court Judge for the 13th Judicial District, a seat currently held by Judge Leon Burns, who is not seeking re-election.

Loren was joined on signing day by her parents, Janie Randolph and Jerry Foster. Warriors hold off Walker Valley for second win

Walker Valley shoots down Warriorettes 79-64

Taking it at them. Alex Lewis takes the ball up for two points between two Walker Valley defenders. Lewis came off the bench to score 11 points, but the Warriorettes were defeated 79-64 by a hot shooting Lady Mustang team.

When the Warriorettes opened the season Tuesday night at home, they shot the lights out early, jumped to an early lead and finished off a lop-sided win.
The roles were reversed Friday night in Cleveland. The Walker Valley Lady Mustangs connected on 13 of their 23 three point attempts, built a double figure lead and held on for the 15-point win over the Warriorettes.

Michael Glenn Hankines, age 46, of Sparta, passed away recently at his home.
Mr. Hankines was born March 9, 1967, in Van Buren County, to Hubert Tobitt and the late Iva Jean Hankines Tobitt.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Iva Jean Tobitt, and grandparents, Albert and Eileen Tobitt and J.T. and Dorthea Hankines.

E-911 board sets dispatcher pay scale

At the Nov. 11 meeting of the E-911 Board of Directors, the board continued to make efforts to improve policies for employees of E-911, by setting a concrete pay scale for dispatchers.
Board member Geeta McMillan spoke on behalf of the personnel committee and recommended several ideas for the board to consider, such as a cost of living raise that is comparable to that of county employees, step increases in pay, annual employee evaluations, increased wages for completing extra training, and most importantly, a clearly defined pay scale.

Randall Lee (Randy) Stoglin, 53, of the Cole’s Chapel community of White County, passed away Nov. 10, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Stoglin was born June 2, 1960, the son of Walter Carson Stoglin and Kitty Clouse Stoglin Mahan, of White County.
