Veteran WCHS soccer team poised for 2014

Soccer seniors. WCHS has six Warrior senior soccer players this spring. They are goalkeeper, Tommy Odom (front row), back row (l to r): Jacob Winton, C.D. Hindenberger, Dalton Pope, Tristen New and Nick Sanchez. The soccer team opens their season Tuesday at Lebanon.

When the spring season for White County High School soccer gets underway Tuesday, Coach Doug Dodson will have plenty of experience on which to rely.
The Warriors, who are coming off two of the best seasons record-wise in school history, return at least 15 players who gained valuable playing experience last season.

Emily Willis, a resident of NHC in Sparta, has witnessed and experienced her share of sexist treatment throughout the years. Willis encourages women to stand up for themselves.
Willis has also witnessed the treatment of women improve over her lifetime.
“They can’t look at you and say, ‘Shut up. You’re just a woman.’ Back then, you didn’t think about things like that. You just did as you were told,” Willis said.

Remains positively identified as Reightler

Human remains that were found March 5 near the Doe Creek area of White County have positively been identified as Kelly Sue Reightler
According to Detective Chris Isom, of White County Sheriff Department, the medical examiner’s office in Nashville confirmed the identity on March 7, 2014.
Reightler had not been seen or heard from since she left her residence on North Star Road, in the Bon Air Community, in the early morning hours of Feb. 16.
A report was filed with the sheriff department on Feb. 19.

Helen Louise Grissom Guthrie

Helen Louise Grissom Guthrie, 89, passed away March 4, 2014, of natural causes following a yearlong struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
A lifelong resident of Warren County, she was born June 6, 1924, to late John Curl and Kathrynn Grissom.
She married William Leonard Guthrie, in 1940, and they lived a long life together in the Dibrell community, where they ran the family business, Guthrie Nursery.
Above all else, Helen loved her family and church. She will be remembered by family and friends as a kind and giving person who was always ready to help those in need.

Miller graduates Air Force basic training in San Antonio

 Air Force Airman Kasey M. Miller graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.  Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Miller is the daughter of Joanne Miller, of Sparta. She is a 2011 graduate of White County High School.

Earl Howard Meyers

Earl Howard Meyers, 88, of Nashville, passed away March 6, 2014 at St. Thomas Hospital, in Nashville.
Mr. Meyers was born Oct. 4, 1925, in McCallister, Okla., and was the son of Arthur H. Meyers and Hilda Louise Caldwell Kent.
He served his country 1942-1945, in World War II, in the United States Air Force and was a Shriner for 55 years and also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Winifred “Ferdie” Day Meyers; daughter Judy Monk; and brother, Jim Meyers.

Clata Mae Mason Richardson, 73, of Sparta, passed away March 5, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Sparta.
Mrs. Richardson was born Oct. 2, 1940, in White County, to Denton and Mary Iva Savage Mason.
She was a retired worker from Sparta Shirt Factory and Doyle Shirt Factory.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James H. Richardson, and brothers, Earl Mason, Clyde Mason and Roy Mason.

Patricia Ann Wair Moseley, 68, passed away March 4, 2014, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Ms Moseley was born March 15, 1945, in Nashville, the daughter of Clyde William Wair Sr. and Fannie Louise Taylor Wair.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Clyde William Wair Jr. and Virgil Wair.

Ella June Brock, 73, of Oakland, Tenn., passed away March 6, 2014, at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital, in Germantown.
Mrs. Brock was born May 22, 1940, in Spencer, the daughter of Sherful Braddom and Theola Grissom.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., March 9, 2014, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Molloy Cemetery, in Spencer. The family will receive friends 4-9 p.m., March 8, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m., March 9, at the funeral home.
Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Danny Dale Nowling

Danny Dale Nowling, 69, of Walling, passed away March 21, 2014, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Nowling was born March 8, 1944, in Brownstown, Ind., and was the son of Nelson Nowling and Irene Gunther Nowling.
