Victim of stabbing treated at Sparta hospital

Incident reportedly occurred in Putnam County
A stabbing in Putnam County, on Wednesday, has ties to an occurrence in White County that led sheriff department officers to the hospital in Sparta.
According to Sheriff Oddie Shoupe, a call was received at approximately 11:15 a.m., March 19, 2014, that a double stabbing had taken place at a Johnson residence, on Luna Road, in White County. Officers checked two “Johnson” residences, but found no signs of an alleged stabbing.
Officers soon received notification that a man with stab wounds had been transported to the emergency room at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta, at which time they went to the hospital … CONTINUED

Ashley Lewis, supervisor of Coordinated School Health, addressed White County School Board during its March 13, 2014, meeting and asked members to consider an opportunity to make a difference in student mental health.

Three transported in Bockman crash

A two-vehicle crash March 14, on Bockman Way, sent two adults and one child to Highlands Medical Center for injuries suffered in the crash.
According to Sparta Police Chief Jeff Guth, at approximately 12:58 p.m., a 2009 blue Nissan Altima driven by Casey L. Gibson, 21, of Crossville, was attempting to exit O’Reilly Auto Parts to turn left on Bockman Way.

Cookeville Police Department and Flowserve nominated for 2014 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award

Two Putnam County employers are among 58 employers that have been nominated to receive a prestigious award from Tennessee National Guard.
Cookeville Police Department and Flowserve were nominated to receive the Freedom Award, which is the Department of Defense’s highest recognition for employers supporting employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
Up to 15 award recipients will be announced this summer and honored at the Pentagon in September at the 19th annual Freedom Award ceremony.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve received 2,864 nominations nationwide during the nomination season. Nearly one-half of the U.S. military is comprised of Guard and Reserve members.

A big “thank-you” to everyone that supported us during “Spay Month, White County.” Whether you helped sponsor a spay/neuter surgery, attended our chili dinner, or made a donation during our fund drive at Walmart, you helped make this event a huge success, and we appreciate you. We raised a grand total of $3750.50, all of which will be used to fund spay/neuter surgeries for pets belonging to families who can’t afford the cost. A special thanks to the Friends of White County Animals and the Girl Scouts who joined forces with us in sponsoring our second annual chili dinner. Betty Sue Vinson Kerr, 75, Sparta, passed away March 15, 2014, at her home.
Mrs. Kerr was born Oct. 9, 1938, in White County, to Donald and Anna Lee Simmons Vinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Lloyd Kerr; and two brothers, J.C. Vinson and Tom Vinson.
She is survived by her daughter, Renee (Gary) Backes, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandsons, James Andrew Carpenter, of Murfreesboro, Garrett Lee Backes, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two brothers, Eddie (Teri) Vinson, of Sparta, Coy Vinson, of Chattanooga; sister, Joyce (William) Brock, of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Marline Marie Bernel Lamb, 77, of Sparta, formerly of Arizona, passed away March 14, 2014, at her residence
Mrs. Lamb was born Jan. 2, 1937, in San Jose, Calif., Earnest and Mary Cruz Rodrigues Bernel.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lamb, and a son, James Lamb.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Lamb, of Ohio, Brenda Langston, of Arizona, Sheila Byler, of Sparta; two sons, Joseph M. Lamb, of Sparta, Mark Lamb, of Sparta; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.


Robert Danny Randolph

Robert Danny Randolph, 59, of Sparta, passed away March 15, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Randolph was born Aug. 10, 1954, to Estus Randolph and Lillian Christine Prater Randolph.
He was employed by the zinc mine, in Carthage, for 25 years and at Federal Mogul of Smithville for 10 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather, as well as a devoted husband of 40 years to his wife, Vicky Parks Randolph.

Ms. Smith was born Aug. 18, 1958, in Warren, Mich.

Rintha Mae McCarter Brown, 97, passed away quietly Feb. 17, 2014, in Lynchburg, Va. She was formerly of Walling, in White County, and had previously lived in Greeneville, Tenn.
Mrs. Brown was born Feb. 15, 1917, the daughter of Oscar McCarter and Josephine Ramsey McCarter, of Philadelphia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Herbert Brown (2001); one son, Robert Vernon Brown (1949); eight brothers; and two sisters.
