Howard “Plinky” Lundy Wallace

Howard Lundy “Plinky” Wallace, 73, of Sparta, passed away May 20, 2014, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Wallace was born Aug. 31, 1940, in White County, to John Merrill and Ollie Edith Robinson Wallace.

He was a retired milk deliveryman for Purity Dairy and a member of Sparta First Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his two sisters, Ann Walker and husband Denny, of Sparta, Doris Wallace Jackson, of Cookeville, and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth E. Yoder

Kenneth E Yoder, 83, of Bristol, Indiana, passed away May 15, 2014, at his residence in Sparta.

Mr. Yoder was born April 30, 1931, in Goshen, Indiana, to Mearl J. and Mary Ann Hatfield Yoder.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Sue D. Tryon. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2008.

Mr. Yoder served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, 1952-1954. He was employed more than 15 years as a driver for Pritt Tire and Axle Inc., in Bristol, prior to his retirement, in 1996.

Following retirement, he often enjoyed golfing and fishing with the Sparta Bass Club. He has been an active member … CONTINUED

“Welcome to Medicare” class

Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare?  The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is hosting a class for those entering the confusing world of Medicare, 9-11:30 a.m., June 16, at White County Public Library. The class will consist of training on Parts A, B, C and D, as well as Medigap policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud.  SHIP is a federally funded program administered locally through the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability and provides free and objective counseling to all Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers.  To reserve a seat for the class, please call SHIP at 1-877-801-0044.

Warren “Doug” G. Conley

Warren “Doug” G. Conley, 71, passed away May 19, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Conley was born June 16, 1942, in White County, to Herman and Nora Clouse Conley.

He loved being with his family and friends. His hobbies were racing and fishing.

Mr. Conley was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Quentin, Milbern and J.C. Conley; and a sister, Naomi Keathley.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Priscilla Frazier Conley; children, Doug Conley Jr., Betty E. Conley, Billy D. Melvin Leighton Kirby

Melvin Leighton Kirby, 87, passed away May 19, 2014, at his home in Sparta.
Mr. Kirby was born on May 11, 1927, in McMinnville, to Milburn and Clellie Kirby.
He served country in U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Also he was a member of the Taylor’s Providence Church, but attended Sparta First Baptist Church for nine years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan Kirby; children, Lee Kirby and Nancy Fosdyck.
