October ends, not Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

During what shelter workers and volunteers are calling “Miracle Monday,” 12 dogs were adopted in an effort to spare many shelter residents from euthanasia.  Volunteers kept the energy going, extending the hours of the shelter for Miracle Week.  In those few days, 22 dogs found their forever homes.  As today is the end of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, animal shelter manager Stephanie Smith is thankful for the adoptions that saved lives this month.

“We celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month in October, but every month is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month,” Smith said.

 


Holiday Mission Mart tomorrow

The Holiday Mission Mart, a charity fair, will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 1, at First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville.  The event will offer food, children’s activities, and prizes.  Buying certificates or gift items at The Holiday Mission Mart will support the church’s missions.  There will be a soup and salad lunch for $5.


Doyle Halloween Fall Festival postponed until Monday

Due to weather conditions, the Doyle Halloween Fall Festival that was originally scheduled for tonight has been postponed to 4:30 on Monday, Nov. 3 at the Doyle Civic Center.


Book Discussion Group meeting coming up

Christmas in Our Town Puppet Show

The White County Public Library has announced that it will take part in Sparta’s annual Christmas in Our Town on Saturday, Dec. 6 with a puppet show performance and a possible visit from Mr. Claus himself.  The puppet show will begin at 10 a.m.


Volunteers needed for Reading in Schools

Next week, Nov. 3-7, is Reading in Schools Week.  The White County Public Library is asking for volunteers to help them read to White County’s elementary school children.

Volunteers are needed for the following days and times:

Nov. 3– Doyle, 8 a.m., 2 needed; Findlay, 1 p.m., 4 needed

Nov. 5– Central View, 8 a.m., 1 needed; Cassville, 9 a.m., 3 needed; Northfield, 1 p.m., 9 needed

Nov. 6– BonDeCroft, 8 a.m., 4 needed

Nov. 7–  Woodland, 8 a.m., 14 needed

Eddie Lee Kinniard

Eddie Lee Kinniard, 70, of Smyrna, passed away Oct. 30, 2014, at Stone Crest Medical Center, in Smyrna.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Hunter Funeral is in charge of arrangements.


Benefit to purchase headstone

There will be benefit/gospel singing at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at ChristPoint Church, 13 Liberty Square, in Sparta, to help purchase a memorial headstone for Curron Lowery. Featured entertainers will be The Community Choir, Regina Coonrod, Tammy Young, Ken Clemons and other singers associated with Curron’s ministry will be participating.
