‘Miracle Monday’ at shelter saves lives, but adopters still needed

Traffic crash blocks Crossville Highway

A two-vehicle collision on Crossville Highway near the scenic overlook has blocked traffic while emergency crews attend to the scene. Tennessee Highway Patrol, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad, White County Sheriff Department and White County Emergency Medical Services are currently at the scene.


Quebeck potluck

Halloween at Elks Lodge

Elks Lodge 2863 will host a Halloween party beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at the lodge, 4424 Old Kentucky Rd., in Sparta. The band “Soul Fissh” will begin playing at 7 p.m. There will be a $5 donation at the door. You can order from the menu. There will be games during the intermissions and judging of the best costume. Benefit for Kenneth W. Peters

A benefit for Kenneth W. Peters will be held at the Sparta Civic Center at 4 p.m., Sat., Oct. 25. Music will be provided by Midnight Cry, Bruce Parker and The RavensCroft Church singers. There will be hamburger and hot dog plates, drinks and a bake sale, along with an auction and cake walk. Kenneth (Kenny) has recently been diagnosed with liver failure and is unable to work. Proceeds from the benefit will go toward his treatment and medicines. If you are unable to attend, but would like to donate auction items, food items, or money to help Kenny contact Rev. White County Animal Shelter open for extended hours this week

Due to the high number of animals currently at the White County Animal Shelter, the shelter will be open for extended hours this week to encourage potential adopters to come out and meet the dogs.  The shelter will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. today, tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday.  The shelter is also asking for volunteers to stop by and help.  The shelter is located at 5600 Gum Springs Mountain Road in Sparta.  To contact the shelter, call (931) 761-3647.

 


2nd Annual Superhero Ball set for Nov. 15

From 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Tennessee Technological University Memorial Gym. the 2nd Annual Superheroes Ball will be held to benefit the American Cancer Society.  This is a mother/son date night event.  Tickets are $20 and are available at the Cookeville American Cancer Society office, Fun Factory, The Little Gym Cookeville, and Tennessee Print Masters.  A ticket includes admission to the ball, on-site activities, and food.  Children’s tickets also include a t-shirt.  T-shirts are available for adults for $10.


Trick or Treat at the Y

Sparta-White County YMCA has partnered with Walmart to hold Trick or Treat at the YMCA this year on Halloween from 5 – 8 p.m. There will be games, candy, face painting, and just plain old fashioned fun! Call the YMCA at 836-3330 if you have questions or want more information.


Cassville Fire Department Breakfast scheduled for Saturday

Cassville Fire Department will be holding their fund raiser breakfast on Sat., Oct. 25,  6:00am-10:00am.
Delivery available for orders of five or more. To schedule a delivery, call 931-761-2476.
The menu includes: Ham, bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy, eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee.
