White County unemployment rate drops to 8.0 percent

New figures released by the department of Labor and Workforce Development show that White County’s unemployment rate has continued to drop every month since July. The rates for the past three months have been:

July 2014: 9.5
August 2014: 9.1
September 2014: 8.0


Rotary Club Christmas parade applications available

Sparta Rotary presents the 2014 Sparta Christmas Parade, themed “Light Up Christmas.” The parade will be held 4 p.m., Sat., Dec. 13, 2014. Applications for entry into the parade can be found at the Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce.

Congressman Black visits White County

Today, Congressman Diane Black is paying a visit to White County.  This morning, Black toured the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport.  This afternoon, she will also be visiting White County High School.


NHC trick or treating tomorrow

Senior Center yard sale

Sparta YMCA Winter Wonderland set for Nov. 7, Nov. 8

From 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Nov. 7 and 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Nov. 8, the Sparta YMCA will be hosting the Winter Wonderland Craft Bazaar.  There will be a variety of vendors present.  Admission is free.
