Sullivan Knowles crash injures one

A single vehicle crash at approximately 3 a.m. on Oct. 5 sent one to Highlands Medical Center. Sparta White County Rescue Squad, Mt. Gilead Volunteer Fire Department, White County EMS and White County Sheriff Department were on the scene.  More information will be released as it is available.

Knights of Columbus to hold annual campaign for people with intellectual disabilities

Knights of Columbus Chapter 14902, from St. Andrew Catholic Church, in Sparta, will sponsor its annual “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities” Fund Drive, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 17 and 18. Knights and their spouses will be handing out free Tootsie Rolls at Floyds, Walgreens, Save-A-Lot and Piggly Wiggly. All donations received will be used to fund the Knights’ programs geared to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. 50 percent of funds raised will stay in the local community. Taste of Home Cooking School tickets on sale

Taste of Home Cooking School returns to Sparta at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014. Michelle “Red” Roberts will once again be hosting the two-hour show and will demonstrate for attendees how to use household products in new and exciting ways. Tickets are once again $35 for premium reserved seating and $12 for general admission. Doors open at 4 p.m. for reserved seating ticketholders and at 5 p.m. for general admission tickets. The show will be held at White County Agriculture Complex, 564 Hale St., in Sparta. For tickets, call (931) 836-3284 or come by The Expositor office, located at 34 W. Bockman Way, in Sparta.


NARFE meeting Oct. 21

National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1956, will have its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 21, 2014, at Shoney’s Restaurant, on South Jefferson Avenue, in Cookeville. The meal begins at 6 p.m.., with the meeting at 6:45 p.m. The speaker this month will be someone from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center Cardiac Care Department. All current and retired federal employees & their spouses are invited to attend. Please feel free to bring a friend who might benefit from this presentation. Kevin Biehl, 60, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 5, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Alvilda Hickenbottom Rogers Greene

Alvilda Hickenbottom Rogers Greene, 89, of Sparta passed away Oct. 4, 2014, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mrs. Greene was born Aug. 27, 1925, in White County, to Charles Wesley Hickenbottom and Prilla Wallace Hickenbottom.

She was a former factory worker and White County Hospital housekeeper. More importantly, she was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a charter member of North Sparta Church of God and has left a Godly heritage for her family.

Geneva Pearl Thompson Spitzer

Geneva Pearl Thompson Spitzer, 88, passed away Oct. 3, 2014, at Desert Flower Memory Care Center in Scottsdale, Arizona where she was residing with her son, Kim and wife Kristy Davenport.

She was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Sparta, to William Cleveland Thompson and Ollie Laurntine Thurman Thompson.

Graveside service at Plainview Cemetery, in Cassville, will be scheduled later.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Sparta Head Start open house
