Tomorrow last day of Reading in Schools

This morning, readers from the White County Public Library visited BonDeCroft Elementary School to read to the children.  Tomorrow, readers will visit Woodland Park Elementary School at 8 a.m.  Tomorrow will be the last day to volunteer.  If you would like to volunteer to read, contact Cathy Farley at (931) 836-3613.


Lew Betterton benefit

Lew Betterton,  20-year former chief of Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department, is in need of the community’s help. Lew’s health issues began with a dislocated shoulder, then a broken leg, plus he has been battling prostate cancer the entire time.  A benefit will be Nov. 15, at Cherry Creek Fire Department, 124 Montgomery Rd. A silent auction will be held 1-3 p.m.  A pig roast at 3 p.m. There will also be chicken, along with side items. To donate items  call (931) 260-7934.


Singing coming up at Spring Hill the Baptist Church

Jesse Alvin Clemons

Jesse Alvin Clemons, 83, of Crossville, formerly of Sparta, passed away in the privacy of his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. Clemons was born and raised in the hills of White County. He was a member of the Masonic Order.

He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Ella Clemons; brother, Bill Clemons; daughter and son-in-law, Korey and James Baird; two sons, Tim and Toby Clemons; five grandsons and three granddaughters; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Ruth Jackson.

There will be a memorial service at the graveside at Stringtown Cemetery, at noon, Nov. 15, 2014, with refreshments to follow at 104 Mayberry St., in Crossville.… CONTINUED
