Becky Magura, president and  CEO of WCTE Upper Cumberland PBS, was recently elected to serve as a Professional Director on the national PBS Board of Directors.

White County High School freshmen Logan Harris, Seth Jolley, Mystina Pruitt and Erin Fish are looking forward to participating in their first Happening. This year’s speaker is Jeffrey Dean from Nashville. The Happening is a FREE event for White County High School students only and will take place Nov. 8, with check-in starting at 3 p.m. Students will enjoy lots of fun, food and fellowship before the event ends at 11 p.m. To attend The Happening, students must have a permission slip signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Relay for Life Committee gearing up for 2015

Relay for Life (color)White County Relay For Life committee will be having its first meeting  for the 2015 event, at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 5 @ at U.T. Extension Office, 117 S. Main St., in Sparta. Lunch will be provided. Betty B. Miller

Betty B. Miller, 90, of Johnson City, passed away Oct. 30, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Miller was born on Aug. 9, 1924, in Glomar, Kentucky, the daughter of Arthur and Millie Bryant and grew up in Sparta.

Mrs. Miller received a bachelor’s degree in audiology and a master’s degree in communicative disorders, with honors from East Tennessee State University where she then taught. She was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church for 50 years where she was involved in many different groups.
