Gas prices update

Average retail gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 4.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.61/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,821 gas outlets in Tennessee. Prices yesterday were 48.8 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 21.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 24.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 41.4 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

 

 


Sparta Christmas Parade

Sparta Rotary Club presents the 2014 Sparta Christmas Parade beginning at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. This year’s theme is “Light Up Christmas.” Line-up begins at 2:15 p.m., at White County High School. All floats must be lined up before 3 p.m. Applications must be in by noon, Dec. 11, and can be picked up at Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce, 16 W. Bockman Way, or by emailing makeasplash@spartatnchamber.com. Completed applications can be delivered the Chamber office, emailed or faxed to (931) 836-2216. Call (931) 836-3552 for more details.


Christmas luncheon

Elementary champions decided

The annual elementary basketball tournament concluded Saturday at the WCMS gym.  Three schools took home titles.

Cassville won the girls’ small school title defeating Doyle 19-18.

The Doyle Indians picked up the small division boys’ title with a 39-28 win over BonDeCroft.

Woodland Park swept the large division titles with a pair of wins over Findlay.  The Lady Panthers were victorious 28-14 and the Panthers followed with a 39-31 win.

Edna Ferol Wilhite

Edna Ferol Wilhite, 71, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 20, 2014, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wilhite was born Sept. 20, 1943, in Gainesboro, to Landon Young and Williford Young.

She was the wife of Ralph Wilhite.

Mrs. Wilhite was a graduate of White County High School and a member of Cherry Creek Baptist Church for 35 years. She enjoyed her grandchildren and reading and was a loving wife and mother.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Wilhite, of Sparta; two sons, Patrick Wilhite and wife Angie, of Sparta, Jeremy Wilhite and wife Brooke, of Gainesboro; daughter, Valerie Franco and husband Roy, of Cornelius, North Carolina; six sisters, … Read More


Christmas in Our Town schedule finalized

The Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce has finalized the schedule and participating merchants for this year’s Christmas in Our Town event. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m., with music all day at Oldham Theater, a craft fair at the American Legion, and games and fun for children of all ages across the city. Entry forms will be available on Monday at the Chamber office to enter to win prizes from local merchants. The entry form and additional details can be found at sparta-chamber.net.
