Highway 111 down to one lane

Both directions of Highway 111 are down to one lane as construction crews work. The lane closures are confined to the Calfkiller bridge.

Debra Elaine Tollison Howard lived her life as a true free spirit. She is the epitome of a Colorado cowgirl.

The daughter of Lillie Mae and Billie Keith Tollison, she enjoyed a childhood rich in southern roots and her adult life wrangling in the Wild West. Deb breathed, drank, ate, slept, and dreamed of all things horses and mules. Her favorite smell in the whole world was horse. She was a true anchor in the horse scene and equine community in the Colorado area.

Delma Aldridge, 76, of Doyle, passed away Dec. 9, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rotary Club of Sparta is proud to recognize the following WCHS students for their participation in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Approximately 160 students from across Middle Tennessee were selected to participate in a variety of developmental activities designed to enhance the skills of our future leaders is areas such as the fundamentals of leadership, ethics, effective communication, problem-solving and conflict management. WCHS students shown are (L-R) Lucas Sullivan, Whitney Kirby, Jocelyn Davis, Sarah Wilson, and Paul Gibson, along with Rotary Club president John Downs.

 


Old Zion Christmas play

Old Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7489 Old Kentucky Rd., in Sparta, will have its Christmas play, “A Child is Born,” at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14. Refreshments will be served after the play. Everyone is invited to attend.


Firefighters celebrate the holidays with Santa

Firefighters with Sparta Fire Department and their families celebrated Christmas together at their annual Christmas party, held at Casa Luna. Everyone took a moment for a visit with Santa, who came in to give presents to the children.
