WCMSWhite County Middle School Band will have its Christmas concert at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at the school. There is no admission charge. However, they will be accepting donations of canned food and dry food items to help needy families in White County during the holiday season.

Eastland breakfast

Eastland Volunteer Fire Department will host a breakfast 6-10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the fire hall, 221 Eastland Cemetery Rd. The meal will include scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, potatoes, gravy and biscuits (pancakes on request). Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. For deliveries, call the fire hall at (931) 935-8299.


Legion craft fair

The American Legion Holiday Craft Fair will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in conjunction with “Christmas in our Town.” The event will be at the Legion building on Liberty Square, in downtown Sparta.


WCHS toy drive

White County High School Advanced Choir Toy Drive is now through Dec. 12. We need storybooks, coloring books, crayons, and small stuffed animals. All items must be new. If you would like to help, drop items off at the WCHS office or call (931) 836-3214.


Beta Club collecting coats

Bennett graduates from basic training

Army Pfc. Steven J. Bennett has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values. Bennett is the son of Jamie and Steve Bennett, of Sparta. He is a 2013 graduate of White High School.

Problem located at WCHS

Firefighters have reportedly located the source of the problem causing the smoke alarms to sound. Firefighters on the scene have downgraded the situation to “non-emergency.” No further information has been released at this time.

WCHS evacuated for smoke alarm

Sparta firefighters are currently responding to a smoke alarm at White County High School. Firefighters are inside the building, and students have reportedly been evacuated while firefighters investigate.
