A single-vehicle crash on Hensley Chapel Road had rescue workers searching for a vehicle that had traveled off the roadway. Sparta Rescue Squad responded to the scene to perform an extrication to remove the victim from the overturned vehicle.

WCHS came home from Jamestown with two wins. The Warriorettes cruised past the Dragonettes 60-27. The Warriors held off a York rally for the 56-51 victory.

Three White County troopers participated in a checkpoint on Nov. 28, in an effort to keep White County roadways safe for drivers. During this checkpoint, Sgt. Jimmy Jones states that troopers arrested Randall Hayes, of McKee, Kentucky, for DUI: third offense, driving on revoked license due to conviction of DUI and open container. James Keith Howard, 79, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 30, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Howard was born May 21, 1935, in White County, to Ed and Braska England Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ed Howard Jr.; and a sister, Elise Hitchcock.
Survivors include his son, Cameron (Denese) Howard, of Sparta; daughter, Marilyn (Larry) Sullivan, of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Cami Howard, Joseph Howard, Sam England, Ryan England, Natisha England; three brothers, Gus Howard, Jerry Howard, Joe Howard; and six sisters, Ann Wood, Kay Howard, Betty Putman, Phyllis Garner, Nancy Rogers and Patty Ganser.

The Rev. Billy Hawkins, 81, of Doyle, passed away Dec. 1, 2014, at his residence.
The Rev. Hawkins was born April 25, 1933, in the Hilham Community of Overton County, to Willie Herman and Altie Lee Neely Hawkins.
He served in ministry for 59 years. He founded the Ole Country Church, Hilham Church of God, built the Doyle Church of God and Manchester Church of God. During his years of ministry he pastored five churches, evangelized in four states and had extensive mission work in Honduras.

Betty Jean Dabbs, 81, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 1, 2014, at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta.
Some of Mrs. Dabbs’ accomplishments were graduate of Tennessee Tech / Kappa Delta Pi; playing the piano and organ; artist; making cards; and writing poetry
She was a member of Central Church of Christ.
Mrs. Dabbs was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Pleasant Bean and Myrtie Ella Judd Bean; brother and sister-in- law, the Rev. Mitchel D. Bean and Augzelle; and brother-in-law, the Rev. Hobart R. Freeman.

Fifteen of White County’s Special Olympians are still in need of sponsors for the Winter Games. Sixty dollars sponsors one athlete; groups can come together to sponsor one or more athletes. The sponsorship covers transportation, equipment, hotel costs, and other necessities for the 2-day trip. The Olympians will snowboard, ski, and ice skate.
