Steven Michael Kluge, 54, of Sparta, a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away Nov. 28, 2014, at his residence in Sparta.

Mr. Kluge was born Nov. 23, 1960, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of Harold Kluge and Joyce Tibbits Kluge.

No services are announced at this time.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 


Lillian Beatrice Shockley Hall

Lillian Beatrice Shockley Hall, 80, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away Nov. 29, 2014, at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta.

Mrs. Shockley was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Spencer, to Charlie Shockley and Ethel Judy Johnson Shockley Northcutt.

She is survived by her husband, Lowell Hall, of Florida; four daughters, Judy Beaudoin, of Idaho, Dianne Hill, of McMinnville, Kay Hall, of Florida, Carol Hall, of Florida; one son, Bob Hall, of Florida; two sisters, Margaret Smith, of Spencer, Emma Beach, of Chattanooga; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be later in Orange Park, Florida.

Bonnie Marie Winfree, 29, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 27, 2014, at Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ms. Winfree was born May 23, 1985, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, and was the daughter of Floyd Benton “Benny” Whittaker and Kathy Bryant Whittaker.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her daughter, Bailey Marie Winfree, of Alexandria; son, Brennan Michael Winfree, of Alexandria; mother, Kathy Whittaker, of Sparta; grandmother, Janice Bryant, of Gordonsville; three sisters, Amanda Bane and husband Clay, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Kathy Ann Whittaker of Atlanta, Georgia, Jennifer Buntley, of Shelbyville, Tennessee; brother, Stacey Austin and wife Annie, of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews, … Read More

Red Cross asking for blood donations

The American Red Cross is asking eligible donors to give this holiday season with lifesaving blood donations. On December 11 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Sparta Civic Center, the American Red Cross will be accepting donations.

Christmas Concert and Sing-along this Sunday

The Cookeville Community Folk Orchestra will present a free sing-along Christmas Concert from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.  at First Christian Church in Livingston.  The sing-along will feature holiday songs both old and new.

All individuals, groups or businesses interested in the welfare of the abandoned, abused, surrendered or neglected animals in White County are invited to a networking event at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Mason San Pedro Mexican Restaurant in Sparta.

Organizers hope to form a more unified approach to the prevention, promotion, rescue and care of the unwanted domestic animals in White County by aligning with the White County Animal Shelter, sharing resources, planning fundraisers and events, recruiting volunteers and meeting others with the same passion for animals.

Gas prices update

December 1- Average retail gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 2.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.57/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,821 gas outlets in Tennessee. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.78/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
