Warriors take region title

The Warriors captured the Region 3AAA title with a 53-45 win over Bradley Central.

They will host Lawrence County Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the sectional.


Warriorettes win region

The WCHS Warriorettes defeated Cumberland County 56-49 in the Region 3AAA championship game.  They will host Oakland Mondau at 7 p.m. in the sectional game.

Region championship/substate berths all around

It was a great night for the White County and Van Buren County basketball teams in their respective region tournaments.

All four teams won their semifinal games and advanced to Saturday’s championship games.  Those wins also secured a berth in the sectional tournament.  The winners of the region get to host sectional games and the runner-ups have to go on the road.  Girls sectional games are on Monday; boys on Tuesday.

But before the region starts the teams will compete for region titles on Saturday.

Warriorettes outlast Bradley central in 2OT

The Warriorettes earned a spot in the Region 3AAA championship game with a 64-60 2OT win over Bradley Central.  They will take on Cumberland County at 5 p.m. Saturday at Ooltewah in the championship game.

The Warriors defeated Cookeville 66-61 in the Region 3AAA semifinals and earned a spot in the region championship Saturday at 6:30 central time.

Fred’s bake sale for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital

Ronnie Lee Clark

Ronnie Lee Clark, 68 of Sparta, passed away Feb. 25, 2015, at the residence of family, in Algood.

Mr. Clark was born Aug. 24, 1946, in Sparta, to Hillyard Lee and Lula Edna Flatt Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Roberts.

He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Alta Wilson Clark; children, Jennifer Grace, Tricia Hale, Greg Chapman, Carrie Roberson; grandchildren, Shawn Walker, Heather Gallagher, Brooke Chapman, Cain Chapman, Darren Chapman, Joshua Chapman; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jo Thompson, Connie Dodson and Teresa Bumbalough.

On Feb. 25, Tennessee Highway Patrol held their statewide THP Recognition Banquet at the Embassy Suites in Murfressboro. Pictured are Captain R.C. Best of You Pageant

Project Graduation’s “Best of You” pageant will be held Saturday, February 28, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the White County High School Multipurpose room.

The money raised from this pageant will help this year’s seniors spend one last day celebrating with their classmates.


Masters’ Brew to close Feb. 28

WCTE hosts education and economics event

WCTE will present A Community Conversation: Issues in Education and Economics on Monday, March 9, 2015, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Leslie Town Centre, in Cookeville. Co-sponsored by the Highlands Economic Partnership, this community conversation is part of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen, a public media initiative supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help communities across America address the dropout crisis. This meeting will be recorded on March 9; an edited version will air on WCTE March 26. This meeting is open to the public; interested community members are encouraged to attend. The Leslie Town Centre is located at 1 West 1st St. in Cookeville.
