Tornado siren test March 30

A test of the City of Sparta’s weather siren will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 30, weather permitting. Testing will not be done during inclement weather so as not to confuse the public about an actual weather threat.


Gas prices update

Average retail gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 0.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.14/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,821 gas outlets in Tennessee. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.43/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com. The national average has increased 3.0 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 112.6 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.


Be an ombudsman volunteer

Aging Services for the Upper Cumberland Inc. is looking for people who are empathetic, diplomatic and skilled communicators to be volunteer ombudsmen. As a volunteer ombudsmen, you will be assigned a specific long-term care facility, working to ensure the resident’s rights are being protected. You will help residents with problems they are unable to resolve alone. Volunteer ombudsmen dedicate three hours per week to this job. Ongoing training and support are provided. Revival

Community Fellowship Church, 382, W. Bockman Way, in Sparta, is having a spring revival, Sunday, April 12-Wednesday, April 15. Service times are 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Sunday, and 6 p.m., Monday-Wednesday. The evangelist will be Bro. Ronald Roth, of Missouri. Bro. Eugene Lawson, pastor, invites everyone.


Church note burning celebration

North Sparta Church of God, 335 N. Spring St., in Sparta, will have at note burning celebration  May 10, 2015. This is the anniversary of the first service in the new building, which was Mothers’ Day, 2001. Guest minister will be Church of God TN State Bishop Mitch Corder.

Jesse Wade Adcock

Jesse Wade Adcock, 40, of Sparta, passed away Friday at his home in Sparta.

Mr. Adcock was born May 15, 1974, in Cookeville, Bill and Marilyn Adcock, of Sparta.

He is survived by his companion, Sara Luna; parents Bill and Marilyn Adcock; brother, Ty Adcock; sister-in-law, Dawnda Hutchins; and two nieces, Ashley Teegarden and Andrea Richardson.

Funeral service for close family and friends will be 10 a.m., March 31, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Main St., in Sparta, on the corner of College Street and North Main Street next to Thurman Funeral Home. Jonathan Angel will officiate. WCHS softball holds off Livingston for win
