WCHS softball records District 6AAA win

The Warriorette softball team recorded their first District 6AAA win of the season when they came from behind to defeat Stone Memorial 7-2 Tuesday in Sparta.

Henderson scores 12 in All Star game

WCHS senior, Kordell Henderson, wrapped up his high school basketball career with an appearance in the BCAT/TACA East-West All Star game last Saturday at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro.

Henderson played for the East team, which was defeated 129-108 by the West.  Henderson tallied 12 points during his time on the court.


WCHS archery team wins another tournament

Youth Villages free training classes beginning March 28

Youth Villages is in need of caring adults in Sparta and the surrounding area to open their hearts and homes to children in need of a foster family. These vulnerable children need families who will care for them until it is possible for them to return to their birth families or until an adoptive family is found for them. Youth Villages provides free training for those interested in becoming foster parents. The next training session will begin at 9 a.m.,  March 28, at the Youth Villages office, 448 Neal St., in Cookeville. 4-H “Use it Again” piggy bank contest

Several 4-H’ers are competing in the “Use it Again” piggy bank contest, which is sponsored locally by First National Bank. 4-H members in the fourth and fifth grades were given the opportunity to participate in this contest. They were tasked to recycle/re-purpose items found at home, such as an empty shoe box, milk jug, 2 liter bottle, etc. and turn it into a working piggy bank. The bank must be no taller or wider than 12 inches; it must have a slot to put money in AND be able to take money out without breaking the bank.

Easter egg hunt

Piggly Wiggly, in Sparta, will be hosting an Easter egg hunt beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015, for children ages 6 and under. The store is in West Town Plaza, just off Highway 111, behind McDonald’s. Refreshments will be served.


Firefighters responding to brush fire

Firefighters from BonDeCroft, Eastland and Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Departments have been dispatched to a brush fire that has reportedly gotten out of control on Coal Bank Road. The fire is not threatening any structures.


Motlow Nursing Department hosts ACEN site visitors

The nursing department at Motlow College recently hosted a site visit by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. The site visitors will send forth an initial recommendation for full accreditation. The final accreditation result will be announced in August. L-R: Dr. Patricia Lisk, dean of nursing and health technologies at Germanna Community College; Cheryl Kollath, associate degree nursing instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College; Dr. Kathy Sheppard, associate dean of nursing and associate professor of nursing at the University of Mobile; and Dr. Carol Ann Hanna, nursing faculty at Delaware County Community College.


Celebrate Recovery
