The Sparta Rotary Club’s annual donation of $1,000 to Head Start teachers is greatly appreciated. This year teachers from the BonDeCroft and Sparta head start centers chose classroom materials and gross motor toys. Federal Mogul donates to B.A.M.

Federal Mogul Human Resource Manager Gary Hall gives a donation of $1,000 to Joan Belanger for the Backpack Assist Ministry event, which will be Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015. The employees of Federal Mogul held a yard sale on April 18, and the concession proceeds were donated to B.A.M. These funds will help buy school supplies and personal hygiene items for the students in White and Van Buren counties.

Technical graduates ready for skilled jobs

Three White County residents, including two practical nurses, were among the 45 graduates from nine counties recognized during spring trimester ceremonies at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – McMinnville. Freddie Roberts and Betsy Sheffey received their nursing pins and diplomas. The industrial maintenance class included Dustin Brock.

“Run For Your Mama” kicks off race series on May 9

On Saturday, May 9, WCTE’s Run For Your Mama Double Pump 5K kicks off the Run the Cumberland race series. The 7 a.m. 5K Road Race kicks off at Dogwood Park, and the 10 a.m. 5K Trail Run takes place at Cookeville High School’s cross country trail. Runners will have the opportunity to win great prizes, including an iPad Mini and an iPod Touch. Top runners will receive monetary prizes, and special awards will be awarded to participating ‘Mamas.’ Children ages 10 and under can register for just $10. Charles Larry Moore, 64 of Cookeville, passed away April 26, 2015, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Moore was born Jan. 29, 1951, in Dickson.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m., April 30, 2015, at Highland Cemetery, in Sparta.

Subject has fallen over Virgin Falls, Rescue Squad responds for rope rescue

Sparta-White County Rescue Squad, BonDeCroft Volunteer Fire Department and Eastland Volunteer Fire Department have been dispatched to Virgin Falls where a subject has fallen over the falls, and according to E-911 dispatch, will require a rope rescue from the Rescue Squad.

Coffee House Choir Concert

Firefighters get vehicle hay fire under control

Though firefighters have reportedly gotten the vehicle hay fire under control, travelers may still experience a traffic delay on Highway 111 North, as the right lane of travel could still be blocked for until the scene is cleared.
