William Allen Gay, 68, of Sparta, passed away April 25, 2015, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Gay was born June 10, 1946, in McMinnville, the son of Euin Bell Gay and Emmie Lizza Pinegar Gay.

He was employed as a custodian in the White County School system for many years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gay was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel R. Gay and James L. Gay, and two half- sisters, Mary Jones and Reba Davidson.

Curtiss clarifies legislator’s statement in the House

Charles Curtiss, former state representative from White County, would like to clarify why his name was mentioned on the House floor during the April 22, 2015 session. A bill from Senator Paul Bailey, of White County, was presented to the House that State Representative Kevin Dunlap, who also represents White County, reportedly refused to “carry” to the House. Aaron Shafer Memorial Road Race

The 6th Annual Aaron Shafer Memorial Road Race is now in progess, with more than 200 bikers taking part in the event. Time trials will begin at 2 p.m. today. Racers are competing for $4,000 in cash and $3,000 in prizes. The route will take cyclists through Highway 84, Mill Creek Road and Cherry Creek Road. Funds raised by the race go right back into White County, with donations to numerous organizations. Not only does the foundation bring money to White County, but racers spent an estimated $15,000 in Sparta last year while here for the race.

Sparta Police search for iPad thief

At approximately 2:03 a.m. on Friday, April 3, Sparta Police were dispatched to Walmart concerning a theft of 10 iPads from the store. Video surveillance in the store shows a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, with areas of white visible on the skin of both his arms.  The video shows him driving a silver or champagne colored Dodge Caravan with a luggage rack on top. This suspect is believed to have possibly committed a similar theft in Fayetteville, as well. If anyone has information concerning the suspect or the thefts, contact Investigator Doug Goff, of Sparta Police Department, at 836-3734

Walter David “W.D.” White

Walter David “W. D.” White, 86, of the Shady Grove community, passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home, on April 24, 2015, at Highlands Medical Center.

Mr. White was born June 28, 1928, in White County, Floyd White and Bertha Holladay White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Floyd White; a sister, Frances Day; and a son-in-law, Mark Morris.

He was a life-long farmer, member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church, and a member of several community organizations.

Loredo charged with five counts of aggravated animal cruelty

A Quebeck man was arrested on April 10 and is facing five counts of aggravated cruelty, following an incident that allegedly took place last fall, according to White County Sheriff Department. For more information on the arrest of Lionel Loredo, see Thursday’s edition of The Expositor.
