TCATs host “Scholarship Saturday”

TCAT-Livingston will open up its computer lab 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sept. 26, for area high school seniors to sign up for Tennessee Promise and fill out their college applications as part of a statewide Scholarship Saturday. Students may use the college’s computers to sign up online. Free pizza and drinks will also be on hand for anyone signing up.

Flat River Band in concert Oct. 3

The Flat River Band will be headlining the Palace Theatre, in Crossville, at 7 p.m.,  Oct. 3, 2015, with special guests “Saints and Sinners.”

The FRB is comprised of three brothers: Chad Sitze (lead vocalist and guitarist), Dennijo Sitze (vocalist, guitarist and mandolin) and Andy Sitze (vocalist and bass player).

Prior to their move to Nashville and the formation of the FRB, the brothers performed in the Sitze Family Band, which was led by their parents. This musical union achieved two #1’s on the Bluegrass Gospel Charts and many other songs that landed on the charts as well.

Margaret Daniel England

Margaret Daniel England, 85, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 10, 2015, at her residence.

Born Jan. 11, 1930, in Cookeville, she was the daughter of Monroe Daniel and Etta Mae Walker Daniel.

Mrs. England was an avid flower gardener and loved roses. She was a local, regional and national officer of General Federation of Women’s Club and was founder of the local Renaissance Club. She and her husband Frank England Sr. owned and operated England Studio more than 40 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. England was preceded in death by her husband, Frank England Sr., and her sister, Kathleen Oliver.

Thursday, September 10th, Sports action

The following is an update from Thursday’s afternoon in sports across White County.

The Warriorette volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of District 6AAA leader, Cookeville.

The WCHS soccer team was also in district action at Cumberland County and was defeated 2-0 by the Lady Jets.

 


24 hours until kick off

Things are calm now, but in 24 hours,  Warrior Stadium will be rocking.  One of the state’s oldest rivalries kicks off at 7 p.m. when the Warriors and Cavaliers meet on the gridiron.


Haberman deceased after single vehicle crash

Lybirty Haberman, of Tullahoma, has passed away following a traffic crash in the early morning hours of Sept. 5. According to a report by Trooper Chris Bennett, of Tennessee Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Marcus Ferrell, also of Tullahoma, was traveling west on Highway 70 South, just west of East Cole Road, when he ran off the west side of the road into a median. The vehicle rolled over. Haberman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. She passed away on Sept. 9 from her injuries, according to Capt. R.C. Thomas Solomon Cole

Thomas Solomon Cole, 75, of Sparta, passed away today at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Whittenburg arrested during Southern Cross raid

During the raid of Southern Cross Transport Tow yesterday, Sparta Police Sgt. J.T. King arrested Justin Keith Whittenburg after FBI agents reportedly found a container in his pocket with a substance inside that they believe to be methamphetamine. Police Chief Jeff Guth says the substance has been sent for testing. Whittenburg has been charged with possession of schedule II drugs (methamphetamine).

Sparta First Free Will Baptist church wants to takes this opportunity to invite you to attend our 70th Anniversary Service and Old Fashion Day on September 13, 2015

This will be a special day filled with fun, singing, and fellowship and most important: the worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Norman Franklin Jones

Norman Franklin Jones, 91, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 9, 2015.

Mr. Jones was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Sparta, the son of Myrtle Jones.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m., Sept. 11, 2015, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., Sept. 11, at the funeral home.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
