Appreciation Cookout

Everyone is welcome. The community is asked to bring cards of appreciation to the event for the law enforcement officers and first responders. Sparta Police Chief Jeff Guth and White County Sheriff Oddie Shoupe will speak at the event. Other officials will also be part of the event. Willie Clay Brymer

Willie Clay Brymer, 76 of Quebeck, passed away Sept. 24, 2015 , at his residence.

Mr. Brymer was born June 1, 1939.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sept. 25, 2015, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Sept. 25, at the funeral home.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nashville murder suspect arrested in White County by THP trooper

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Ballew arrested a suspect wanted in Nashville for the suspected stabbing death of his girlfriend, on the morning of Sept. 21, as the suspect was reportedly walking along Memorial Highway, in the Quebeck area of White County. Warriors aiming for Jets Friday in Crossville

While it’s not a region game anymore, Friday’s meeting on the gridiron between the White County High School Warriors and Cumberland County Jets will always mean something.

The two are neighbors that have been competing against each other for a long time. While Cookeville has long been considered the archrival for WCHS, Cumberland County is not too far behind on that spectrum. In fact, the two have actually had a lot closer and more embattled meetings over the past few years, which makes things quite intense.

Artists of Off the Beaten Path cordially invite you to their 16th Annual Studio Tour, which takes place 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 23-25, in and around DeKalb County.

Free Medicare help is available

Medicare Open Enrollment for 2016 begins Oct. 15. For those who are eligible to sign up for Medicare or have questions about making changes to their Medicare health plans and/or Medicare Part D prescription drug plans, free, unbiased Medicare information and counseling is available through the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability.

Open enrollment for the coming year runs from Oct. 15-Dec. 7. During this time, currently enrolled Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their plans. Van Buren correction officer charged with two counts of reckless aggravated assault

COOKEVILLE – Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments charging a Van Buren County Corrections Officer with two counts of reckless aggravated assault.

On June 16, at the request of 31st District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis, TBI special agents began investigating Vernon Frazier. On June 13, two individuals riding motorcycles, in Spencer, reported to the Van Buren County Sheriff Department that a vehicle pulled alongside them, and the driver displayed a handgun in a threatening manner. Having pride in White County High School and being a Warrior athlete is something Jimmy Clark knows all about.

Clark, a 1996 graduate of WCHS and a member of the Warrior basketball team during his high school days, is now the agency manager of the Sparta location of Gary Maxwell Insurance. As a businessman in his hometown, Clark wanted to do something to recognize student athletes and he came up with the idea of the Gary Maxwell Insurance WCHS Scholar Athlete of the Week.
