A crash that occurred this morning around 6:30 a.m., caused a minimal hindrance to traffic. Sparta Police Department was on the scene, as well as Sparta Fire Department. No additional details are available at this time.

Kenneth L. “Butch” Prater, 68, of Sparta, passed away this morning at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In their season finale, the White County High School football team left it all on the field Friday night against Cleveland.
The Raiders held off the Warriors for the 41-33 win and earned the #4 spot in Region 4-5A, which gives them a trip to the playoffs.
The Warriors didn’t make it easy for visitors though. WCHS scored and took a one-point lead late in the third quarter, but Cleveland scored back to back touchdowns and then held off the Warriors.

Lenard Ray “L.R.” West, 60, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 29, 2015, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.
Mr. West was born May 3, 1955, in White County to the late Lenard West and Anna Faye Gardner West.
He was the director of Sparta Electric System after a career of more than 25 years in auto sales. He loved being on his farm, working with his horses and was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church, in Cookeville.

Joyce Irene England Raper, 83, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 28, 2015, at her residence.
Mrs. Raper was born Dec. 1, 1931.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin Raper; sister: Joann (J.D.) Vaughn; brother-in-law, Tom Ward; son, William Calvin Raper and wife Janice; Shantaye Cannon; and grandchildren, Kalarene (Will) Svensson, Kailoni (Clifton) Lawson, John (LaTia) Raper, Douglas Raper, Kayla (Brady) Wright, Jake Bowman; great-grandchildren, Journee and Fait Svensson, Hayden Stewart, Colton Lawson, Brian Wright; and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The first of two Tennessee young sportsman deer hunts for the 2015-16 season will be held the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
Youth ages 6-16 years of age may participate, Young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 or older who must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting device. The adult must also comply with the fluorescent orange regulations as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youth may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult.
Archery season began in the state on Sept. 26 and the first segment ends Oct. 30, the day prior to the opening of the young sportsman hunt. The … CONTINUED
