Taste of Home Cooking School tickets are now on sale

Tickets for the Tuesday, March 8, 2016, Taste of Home Cooking School are now on sale. General admission is $12 and $35 for V.I.P. tickets. All tickets will be purchased online this year. No tickets will be sold at The Expositor.

Click here to purchase tickets. Tickets will be available at the door, if the event doesn’t sell out.

Doors open at 4 p.m. for V.I.P. ticketholders and 5 p.m. for general admission. The show is 7-9 p.m.

Sparta Church of the Nazarene has purchased the license to show the movie “War Room” and will be showing it this coming at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016. There will be free popcorn and drinks available. There will be a Bible study that goes along with the movie on Sunday nights during February and March. For more information, contact Pastor Jamie McCormack, (931) 316-4635, or contact the church through its Facebook page.

WCMS Warriorettes runner-up in CTC tourney

The White County Middle School Warriorettes finished second in the Central Tennessee Conference Tournament.

They were defeated 25-16 in Saturday’s final by Coffee County in Manchester.

Three Warriorettes, Kanden Reeves, Kendreah Reeves and Lauren Turner, along with three Warriors, Masyn Winningham, Austin Burchett and Trey Crockett, were named to the All Conference team for the season.

Virginia Mae Baker, 73, passed away Jan. 29, 2016, at River Park Hospital, in McMinnville

Mrs. Baker was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Greenville, Kentucky, to Elijah Lewis Curtis and Louise Howard Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Chamber installs new directors and elects new officers

The gavel was passed, and three new board members were elected to the Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce at the annual meeting, on Jan. 26, 2016.

Beth Stephens served her final year on the board as chair. Gary Brady, of Brady Printing, and Karen Weaver, of Saint Thomas Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta, were also honored for completing board service.

Three new board members were installed, including Diana Verble, of ERG Realty, Cherri McNeil, of Fragrant Mushroom Gallery, and Rebecca Young, of Life Care Center of Sparta.

Be an ombudsman volunteer

Aging Services for the Upper Cumberland Inc. is looking for people who are empathetic, diplomatic, and skilled communicators to be volunteer Ombudsmen.

As a volunteer ombudsman, you will be assigned to a specific long-term care facility, working to ensure that the resident’s rights are being protected. You will help residents with problems they are unable to resolve alone.

Volunteer ombudsmen dedicate three hours per week to this job. Ongoing training and support are provided.

Van Buren continues District 6A domination

The Van Buren County High School basketball teams continued their romp through District 6A with another pair of decisive wins on the road Friday night in South Pittsburg.

The Eaglettes jumped to a 32-5 lead after one quarter and coasted home for the 66-23 win.  Lakelyn Bouldin led the way with 14 points as 11 girls’ scored in the game for VBHS.

The Eagles got 22 points from Drew Roberts on the way to the 76-52 win over the Pirates in the nightcap.

Both Van Buren teams are a perfect 11-0 in the district with one league game remaining.  They are both 18-3 overall.
