CANCELLED: Usama Dakdok, “Straightway of Grace Ministry,” a Muslim evangelistic specialist speaker, will be at The Community Fellowship Church, 382 W. Bockman Way, in Sparta, at 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. Everyone is welcome.

James Lee Seals

James Lee “Jimmy” Seals II was born Oct. 13, 1969, in Cookeville, to James Seals and Kathlene Thompson Seals, and passed from this life Jan. 18, 2016, in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Seals was blessed with an infectious sense of humor and could always make someone laugh. He was loved by his family and many friends.

Survivors include two sisters, Traci Lyn Seals, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Heather Graham, of Sparta; two children, Keandrea Robbins, Bryson Anderson, both of Sparta; and three grandchildren, Emma Ray, Ella Ray, Jack Ray, all of Sparta.

Louise Richardson

Louise Richardson, 81, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 21, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


WCHS games cancelled today

The White County High School games at Rhea County have been cancelled for today.

No make-up date has been set at this time.

The next game for the Warriors and Warriorettes is Tuesday at Warren County.

Van Buren County, who had a game cancelled on Thursday, did not have a game scheduled for Friday night.  The Eagles and Eaglettes are scheduled to return to action Tuesday at home against Marion County.

The 9th grade district tournament that was scheduled to be played all day Saturday has been postponed as well.  Plans are to play that next Saturday, January 30th.


Taste of Home Cooking School tickets on sale Jan. 25

Taste of Home Cooking School is returning to Sparta. The much-anticipated event, which is sponsored by The Expositor, has been held in October for the past several years, but Michelle Roberts, culinary specialist, will be in Sparta at the White County Agriculture Complex, on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Featured recipes will highlight a spring/summer menu. Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 25, 2016. General admission is $12 and $35 for V.I.P. tickets.

Baker Mountain Farm announces Spring 2016 Egg Hunt

Baker Mountain Farm is excited to announce its Spring 2016 Egg Hunt will be 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., Satuday, April 9, 2016, with free admission to the farm. The Spring Egg Hunt benefits the Children Advocacy Center.

Baker Mountain Farm is seeking crafters, potters, soap-makers, churches, fire departments, police departments, non-profits and any other groups who wish to participate in this event handing out information or goodies for the children. Attendance is expected to reach 500 this year. No food vendors needed. Only one of each type of vendor will be allowed. Cassville breakfast cancelled

According to Dennis Clark, of Cassville Volunteer Fire Department, the breakfast that was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, has been cancelled because of impending severe winter weather.


School Board Appreciation Week in Tennessee, Jan. 24-30

Gov. Bill Haslam has declared Jan. 24-30, 2016, as School Board Appreciation Week in Tennessee. This week helps build awareness and understanding of the vital functions our locally elected boards of education play in our community. Public school districts from across the state join together to celebrate School Board Appreciation Week and honor local board members for their commitment to the community and its children.


Putnam county lawyer Parsons is temporarily suspended

According to the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, on Jan. 21, 2016, the Supreme Court of Tennessee temporarily suspended John Philip Parsons from the practice of law upon finding Mr. Parsons failed to respond to the Board regarding a complaint of misconduct. Section 12.3 of Supreme Court Rule 9 provides for the immediate summary suspension of an attorney’s license to practice law in cases of an attorney’s failure to respond to the Board regarding a complaint of misconduct.
