K-9 seminar and competition to be held in White County

An annual K-9 seminar and competition will be held at White County Fairgrounds, in March 2016, and will be bringing top instructors and K-9 – officer teams from around the state to receive instruction and compete in narcotics detection and patrol tactics.

Midway K-9 Academy’s Spring Seminar Competition is slated for March 28-31, 2016, at the fairgrounds, with approximately 30 K-9 and officer teams receiving two days of invaluable training, followed by an opportunity to compete in patrol and narcotics scenarios they have not seen before.

December tax collections see marked increase over 2014

Tax collections in White County have increased across the board in December 2015, according to the latest figures from the Tennessee Department of Revenue.

The report of revenue collections is released each month, and the latest report, which lists figures for December 2015, shows that while most categories experienced a decreased from November to December 2015, when comparing December 2014 to December 2015, every single category showed an increase over the previous year.

Income tax collections rose from $101 in 2014 to $1412.91 in 2015. Realty taxes rose from $22,191.53 to $31,670.27. State sales taxes rose from $1,065,401.15 to $1,255,635.31. Local sales taxes increased from $295,082.04 to $311,325.61.… CONTINUED


White County Humane Society news

As we close out books on 2015, and enter a new year, we’d like to thank all those who have supported our efforts over the past year.   We funded at total of 50 dog and cat surgeries in Nov and 27 in December. That brings our total for 2015 total to 698.

2016 will mark the 10th year that our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program has been in existence. In those first nine years, we funded a total of 4,398 S/N surgeries. We hope to reach the 5,000 mark this coming year.

Commissioners will be required to re-vote on two resolutions

White County commissioners will be re-voting on two resolutions that were presented during the Jan. 25, 2016, meeting after an error was brought to light about the actual number of votes needed to comprise a majority.

The resolutions affected by the votes were one that would amend the budget to allow for disbursement of all funds ($292,606.70) to E-911 and one that requested Tennessee Legislature and the governor to initiate action to return powers not delegated to the United States to the states and the people.

Sparta First Free Will Baptist Church will be showing the movie “War Room,” beginning at 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31.  No admission and everyone is invited to attend.


Taste of Home Cooking School tickets are now on sale

Tickets for the Tuesday, March 8, 2016, Taste of Home Cooking School are now on sale. General admission is $12 and $35 for V.I.P. tickets. All tickets will be purchased online this year. No tickets will be sold at The Expositor.

Doors open at 4 p.m. for V.I.P. ticketholders and 5 p.m. for general admission. The show is 7-9 p.m.

 


Commodities distribution rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 29

UCHRA’s commodities distribution that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 20, and had been rescheduled for 8:30-11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at White County Agriculture Complex, has again been changed to 8:30-11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 29, because of inclement weather.


Sparta Church of the Nazarene showing movie “War Room”

Sparta Church of the Nazarene has purchased the license to show the movie “War Room” and will be showing it this coming at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016. There will be free popcorn and drinks available. There will be a Bible study that goes along with the movie on Sunday nights during February and March. Tyler Fredrick McBride

Tyler Fredrick McBride, 7, of Sparta, passed away on Jan. 25, 2016.

Born Dec. 7, 2008, in Cookeville, he was the son of Kelly McBride and Samantha Cummins Farley.

Tyler loved playing soccer. His imagination was always huge as was his heart. He was full of love and had a great attitude toward people.

He was preceded in death by many wonderful family members.

Survivors include his parents, Kelly McBride and Samantha Farley; step-parents, Jacob Farley and Freda Young; two sisters, Zoe McBride and Sabrina Farley; brother, Connor McBride; stepsister, Molly Lough; two stepbrothers, Ethan Lough, Logan Lough; grandparents, Johnny and Patty McBride,

Robert Cecil Wilson

The world has lost a great man.

Robert Cecil Wilson, patriarch of the Wilson family, passed away Jan. 26, 2016, at the age of 86.

As his journey on earth came to an end, Robert was welcomed into heaven by his son, Dr. Ronald Wilson, and his wife, Reba Joyce Guy Wilson, who preceded him in death.

Although small in stature, Robert will be remembered by all for his larger-than-life personality and his devotion to his beloved R & R farm.

A native of Sparta, Tennessee, Mr. Wilson was born on May 31, 1929, to Cecil C. Wilson and Lillie Graham Wilson.
