The Expositor is once again sponsoring ‘Pet Idol,’ which provides those who have beloved furry or feathered friends (or maybe not-so-furry and feathered) a way to showcase their cutie pies in a contest that will also provide a donation to White County Humane Society.

Everyday Heroes Fun Day brings the return of the fireman’s muster

The fireman’s muster was a huge hit during today’s Everyday Heroes Fun Day at the Fairgrounds event, with many firefighters from across White County participating in several competitive and team-building contests. Check back with SpartaLive on Monday for many more photos of the day’s activities.

Rotary Scramble winners

The annual Rotary Club Golf Scramble was another success this summer.

A full field of 18 teams hit the course at the Sparta Country Club on June 11th for this year’s tournament, which was played in memory of Byrd Bumbalough.

The team of Stephen Holland, Mark Frasier, Ben Holland and Drew Holland captured the title in this year’s event in a family affair. It was three generations of Holland’s as father (Ben), son (Stephen) and grandson (Drew) teamed up with Mark Frasier, who is the brother-in-law of Stephen Holland, for the win.

“Expositor Inquires” will help answer questions about community

The Expositor is publishing a monthly article that will give residents an opportunity to have their concerns answered.

The article, The Expositor Inquires, asks that the community submit questions or concerns they may have about something going on in White County.

The Expositor will be accepting questions about all topics, including city and county government, status on construction projects, new businesses and updates on news stories.

Any questions you would like to submit should be sent to pamela@spartalive.com. Be sure to put “The Expositor Inquires” in the subject line.

The questions will be researched, and The Expositor will get statements directly from the appropriate official sources.

Smithville Highway Crash

Yesterday, at approximately 2 p.m., two vehicles collided at the intersection of Smithville Highway and Jerry Parker Road. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers at the scene, a silver Dodge Avenger was attempting to crossover Smithville Highway, from Old Smithville Highway onto Jerry Parker Road, and crossed into the path of the Hyundai. Neither of the drivers were injured in the crash. Trooper David Hickey is in charge of the investigation of the crash. Also assisting at the scene were White County Emergency Medical Services and White County Sheriff Department.

Misty Rose Harris McDonald

Misty Rose Harris McDonald, 84, of Doyle, passed away June 16, 2016, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mrs. McDonald was born July 5, 1931, in White County, to William Lee Harris and Annie Daniels Harris.

She was a retired postmaster from the Spencer Post Office and also worked some years at the Doyle Post Office. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Gordon “Nappy” McDonald; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include her son, Phil Gordon McDonald and wife Norma, of Doyle; grandchildren, Ruskin Jade McDonald, of Doyle, Porsche McDonald Thomas and husband … Read More
